Hi,
I have been doing family history for a few years and i do have to ask a question that i do not know an answer to at present.
For instance my example is someone married in say 1854 who gives their fathers name example moses.
I would assume that moses is alive in 1854 but i think in a few instances i have already found that the person named has died.
It is natural for the person getting married to name their parents alive or dead, As this is the case would it not have been a lot simpler to have just said deceased.
Any thoughts as it means finding some relatives harder in this instance.

It all depends how specifically the question re: father was asked
What was your fathers name - answer = Moses
Or
What was your fathers name? Is he still alive?
Lots of marriage entries show father without a "Deceased" notation but the father had already died
