Title: Reading Names
Post by: Hollie.47 on Thursday 09 May 13 11:41 BST (UK)
Hello,

I've been trying to decipher the groom's parent's names on a marriage certificate I've had for a while and I still can't decipher it.  Help please?

I read it as
Frank Leonard Lewis
Ann Bremer, deceased

Hi Hollie

I agree with Billyblue, except for the first word - it really doesn't look like Frank to me, as the last letter seems to be a distinct "i" ??  It looks something like "Ferali"... hmmmmmm, hard one.

I too read the first name as Ferali or similar, at first.
but the more I looked, the more it became Frank.
I think that last letter is the 'hump' on the k, and what appears as a dot on an i  is just a blob of ink.

I have a hard time seeing 'Frank' but wondered if instead of a name its some kind of a title. Perhaps a misspelled 'Fusilier'?

On your earlier thread on the same subject I suggested the name was Frank, and I still think that's what it is  :D
I suggested that there was a stray ink spot over part of the 'k' which makes it look like 'li' instead of 'k'.

Rather than concentrate on the writing of a very difficult to read image, why not post a look for the birth or death of the chap himself on the Australian boards? Make sure you copy and paste a link to this thread though.

Lots of the Australian Rootschatters have all sorts of access to useful info  ;D

Thanks everyone, still not to sure on his name or his wife's maiden name.

Carol - That seems like an excellent idea, I've checked birth, deaths and marriages for both of them but have found nothing at all.

Susan - That is the son of the parent's listed above and I've got that death certificate for him - he died in Lidcombe at 56 years and it has nothing about his father unfortunately.  I have him being born 1875 though  ???

For what it is worth I also saw it as Frank Leonard Lewis and Anne Bremer deceased  - (before reading what others thought!)
