I'm just starting out, and details are limited.
Looking for any record of Harry Gordon Mills, born 1896c, probably on Guernsey. Neither parish location or the date is certain. No details of parents names.
At some stage he/the family migrated to New Zealand. No more known.
Harry is my Great Grandfather.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat
There is no trace of him on the 1901 Channel Islands census or the England/Wales 1901
Can you tell us why you think he may have been born in Guernsey?
Was he born Harry or Henry/Harold and known as Harry?
The only Harry Gordon Mills born in England/Wales was 1899 in Solihull which is in Warwickshire and he died in 1900
There is an 1895 birth in Sussex for Henry Gordon Mills
Did he marry in NZ? Would his marriage cert give any additional info re: parentage?

Maybe? 1901 census:

Just got some marriage records through from NZ, and it turns out I'm looking for Charles Mills, born Guernsey, 19 Nov 1857. His parents are Alexander Mills and Emma-Emily Webb, who had 10 children and there's a thread on this site relating to other Mills children/siblings of whom I'm looking for.

still early days, but so pleased!

this website has given me great info, and I shall have to start a new post on the maternal lines now, although I still can't trace Alexander Mills beyond the birth in Fermanagh in 1784, which is quoted in another rootschat thread. So any info about his family on the Irish side... how far back do these Mills go?
As for the Guernsey Mills Alexander senior & junior; that's complete, except I'd like to know occupation and residence in St P.P.
And it's now down to their wives' Guernsey lines: Alex senior's wife Marie (Mary) Eustace, and Alex junior's wife Emily Emma Webb whose parents are Charles Webb and Maria Pyke.
thanks

Hi
I am researching the Mills family from Guernsey.
I came across your posts and believe my Mills are linked.
I have Jean (John) Mills born 2 June 1815 to Alexandre Mills and Marie (Mary) Eustice so your Alex Junior's brother.
which all fits!
I also have
George John Mills born 17 August 1811 in Guernsey. the son of Alexander Mills and Grace Coad....
to complicate matters there are 2 children christened
John 28 June 1809 and Elizabeth 22 April 1812
Father: Alexander Mills Mother: Elizabeth Mitchell
I haven't a marriage for Alexander and Elizabeth although the records say "his wife"
Are there 2 Alexander Mills around at that time? If it is all the same person we have Children born
1809 - John with Elizabeth Mitchell
1811 - George with Grace Coad
1812 - Elizabeth with Elizabeth Mitchell
1815 - Jean (John) with Mary Eustice
a Marriage to
Grace Coad in Jersey 15 November 1810 which seems like its the same Corporal Alexander Mills
a Marriage to
Marie (Mary) Eustice 7 August 1814 which seems like its the same Corporate Alexander Mills
I am looking for the Christening of George John Mills born 17 August 1811 in Guernsey. I believe he is the son of Alexander Mills and Grace Coad....
Any help would be appreciated!!!

Hi,
Alexander had a first marriage before Mary Eustace, and this information was compiled by another Mills family researcher on rootschat:: summary -
Alexander Mills’ previous marriage, From the Jerripedia website, all records for St Helier, Jersey:
""Alexander Mills 4 Garrison Battalion married Grace Coad on 15 November 1810.
Baptism: George John Mills baptised 30 August 1811 Parents Alexander and Grace Mills.
Grace Cord Mills buried on 24 November 1811 . ""
the second marriage
Corporal Alexander Mills 4th G Battalion and Mary Eustace the daughter of John Eustace were married together 17 August 1814
. Alexander and Mary Eustace - their children:
. Jean (John) 1815 June 2
. Twins: Sarah 1817 April 8
. Elizabeth 1817 April 8
. Alexander 1819 June 22

. Thomas 1833 Feb 28 (?killed on board his boat in Guernsey harbour?)
Death record for Alexander Mills:
Alexander’s death is not on the civil register however his burial record is as follows:
Mills Alexander died 2 was buried 7 January 1848 aged 63 years
Alexander and Mary (Eustace) Mills are buried in Candie Cemetery which is just opposite the Priaulx Library.
1798
Alexander Mills Plot bought by Josue P I Ahier Ecr January 3 1848. Died 2, buried 7 January 1848 aged 63 years born Ireland Plot No: C 32 Y £1 8sh
4893
Mary Eustas wife of Mr. Alexander Mills died January 17, buried 20 1868 aged 80 years & 11 months Plot No: C 32 Y 8sh
Note: Mary’s death certificate states her father is named Thomas however the marriage certificate gives the name as John, - it may be that the person who registered the death made an error. A John Eustace is godparent to John born 1815
Hope this helps decipher some of your records, and is your Mills connection through Jean(John) or George Coad? I'm still trying to find more in the irish records of Alex Mills of Fermanagh, there's pieces in Kew about him but not of his family.
