William McLaughlin born abt 1867 is shown on the 1911 English Census for Cumberland(Whitehaven) as coming from CO Antrim but I can not understand the place name and wonder if someone can help.On the actual return it looks like Dervic but a family tree site translates that as Drivie. On the 1901 English census only Ireland is Shown so no clues there.
Would Welcome ideas.
Many thanks

There's a townland called Dervock in the civil parish of Derrykeighan, also a village by that name. It's just north of Ballymoney.
Edited to add: I wonder is the census age slightly out, or could this be a sibling?

Many thanks for that. Dont know the answer as to bith--the date we have was taken from when he died--think I will need to get the actural certificate. Could be a Sibling. But dont know as have no idea of Williams family before he comes to Whitehaven. First have him on the 1901 census then records run from that.
Again many thanks.

If he died in England there will be few details on death certificate- name, age, sex, occupation, residence. place and cause of death, name of informant.
Did William marry? if so, the marriage certificate should list his father's name and occupation which might help establish a link to his family in ireland.

Thank you. Yes in Whitehaven. Plenty Of William McLaughlin's in the area but can not find a marriage cert with the correct Spouses name. There is one McLaughton which may be a bad misspelling but it appears correct in other areas so think i will just have to chance it.
Many Thanks

Hello
William McLaughlin who is the subject of Earlier posts married on 16 April 1892 in Whitehaven to Annie Stevens 1871-1937.
He is described as a wire worker for the GPO. his father is listed as Deceased and Farmer
William is age 25 --which ties in with the 1867 birth date and dies Whitehaven 1931.
So far have not been able to establish when he came to England or anything about his family in Dervock, Co Antrim. Its possible of course that he was born in a village nearby--distances are not great and this may simply have been the nearest Town.
Any thoughts on how to progress with this would be appreciated.
Many Thanks

... his father is listed as Deceased ...
Hi, what is his father's forename stated as? (is there any other detail stated for him?)
-
hello
Fathers name is William and he was a Farmer.

Hi,
Another possibility is William John McLaughlin, born 9 Feb 1870 and registered in Ballymoney. Parents were William McLaughlin and Martha Jane Patterson.

If you are looking for birth info on William McLaughlin in Co. Antrim, you might want to try checking your local LDS Family History Center. The civil registration of all birth, marriages, and deaths began in 1864. Would suggest you go to your local LDS. Starting with the year of birth you have, 1867, the LDS Film number you will need is #0101044. Look for him registered in the Ballymoney district. The index information will a volume and page number. Write them down. Ask the folks at the LDS about ordering the specific film. If there is more that one William listed, you may have to order more. I'm not sure of the cost, as I did my family many years ago here in the US. The final information will not only include place of birth (townland)), but will also include father's name and mother's maiden name. If you cannot find him in the year 1867, let me know and I will give you other LDS index file numbers that may be helpful.
Good luck.
