This lady was my Mum. She trained at St Giles, Camberwell commencing 1938 and completing in 1942. On 01 Jun 1942 she joined the QAIMNS. She served overseas in North Africa (she was in Tripoli and Cairo) and also in Italy, She returned to London and was discharged in Apr 1944 - but where was she specifically during her service ? Amongst her medals is an African Star and an Italian Star, both medals has bars which I was told means the nurses were attached to the 8th Army.
Can anyone enlighten me further? Her service record just really said that she was overseas, and mentions when she was in hospital in Egypt because she got 3rd degree sunburn and was very sick for a while.
Grateful for any assistance

Hi Kiwicatz,
As no one has replied to your request ,and I have only just found you ,I am hoping what I am about to give you is of use?
Have you tried the QARANC Association web site ?If you go to this site and trawl down the left hand column you will come to a list of Military Hospitals from all over the world .Most of them are sadly no longer working hospitals ,however many have historical facts and stories from those that worked in them in years gone by including WWII.
Hope you can find something that helps put your Family History into context .
Good Hunting and best wishes

I know that we've spoken before, offlist. At that time you sent your mother's postings, and having just reviewed the email I can see that she was with No.93 General Hospital and No.2 General Hospital during her time overseas. You can trace the locations of the hospitals on the following page, which include Iraq, North Africa, Italy, etc. - you might need to do a web search for some of them. Both units have extensive war diaries at The National Archives in class WO177, but they aren't online and you will need to visit to view them.
