Hi
Looking for information about Waneyate in Newchurch in Rossendale. I can't seem to find anything except on the parish registers, so it could be misspelled.

Hi Del,
Maybe Wain Gate? There are some entries in Lancs OPC that give abode "Wain Gate in Rossendale"
On this page for Haslingden, for example

Google Waingate Bacup and you will find a garage to the rear of 290 Bacup Rd at Waterfoot /Newchurch. Yate/Gate is Anglo Saxon for road and probably wane gate followed that course of the present road as the valley is very narrow . You could ask Bacup Historical Society.

I happened to drive past Waingate lane this week . It's actually above Newchurch on the way to Rawtenstall, off New church Rd and I think there are still some old cottages on it. Sorry about the garage red herring . Sue
