Could someone with access to the WFP have a look for any entries for a William D Barron. He was born in 1890 in Aberdeen. I have a copy of his joining up papers which indicates he joined up in 1915 in Canada. There is an entry in an Aberdeen paper that he was reported missing in 1916. The entry gives name and address of parents same as on papers. I have family living at same address so I am sure it is the same person. Only thing is there is also a record for a William Davidson Barron having married a Marjory Wildgoose in 1920.
I am mainly trying to prove that he survived the war and married so any help with finding him after 1915 would be brilliant. He was a Street Car Conductor in Winnipeg before the war and arrived in Canada around 1910.
Thanks

The Canada, War Graves Registers (Circumstances of Casualty), 1914-1948 database at Ancestry has an entry for the death of William D. Barron who died 14 Sep 1939. He had been a Sergeant with the 43rd Battn. The card says William died of pulmonary tuberculosis at Tranquille San. and that his death was due to his service in the military. It also says he was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver. His widow is Mrs. M.M. Barron of Burnaby, BC.
The Manitoba Vital Stats genealogy database has a death for Marjorie McGillvray Barron in Winnipeg on 15 May 1942. The following was in the 18 May 1942 edition of the Winnipeg Free Press:
MRS. M. M. BARRON
The funeral service for Mrs. Marjorie McGillivray Barren of suite 15 Estelle apartments, who died at Grace hospital Friday at the age of 51, was held Monday at 1.3 p.m. in Mordue Bros.' funeral chapel, with burial in Brookside cemetery.

I think it may have been a little later that William came to Canada. There is a William Davidson Barron on the 1911 Scotland census in Fintray, Aberdeen who was 23 years old and a servant (farm labourer) in the household of James Geddes.
There is a passenger list entry for the Grampian which arrived in St John, New Brunswick on 13 Apr 1915 which had a William Barron, 26, whose occupation was listed as farm hand and was destined for Winnipeg. Here's a link to the passenger list (first line):
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0tsi/ (http://www.rootschat.com/links/0tsi/)
Some additional information on Marjorie... There is a Marjorie Wildgoose who was on the passenger list for the Letitia which in Quebec on 18 May 1913. She was 22, born in Scotland, with an occupation listed as domestic servant and she was destined for Winnipeg. Here's a link to the passenger list (line 5):
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e144/e003586556.jpg (http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e144/e003586556.jpg)
Marjory is on the 1916 census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta in the household of Joseph and Mary Dumas. The census lists her as a servant, 25 and born in Scotland with an immigration year of 1913.

Thanks Jacquie for all the information especially confirming that I have the correct William by giving his wife's name. Her death is mentioned in an Aberdeen newspaper but there was not enough to confirm I had the correct William.
William's sailing could have been later. I estimated the year from an extract from an Aberdeen newspaper which said he was missing in 1916. I wonder if it was during this period that his health was affected. I will try an pursue this side.
I am going to have a good look at all the information that I now have, which is very exciting. I wonder if the funeral home would give me any details to see if there were children. Although I would have thought they would have been mentioned on the death notice.
Thanks again for your time. Very much appreciated.

It has just dawned on me that this is probably my guy. He may have been on a war pension and unfit to work.

Thank you so much for sending me the obituary for William. Very much appreciated. I wonder why it does not mention his wife.
I emailed the cemetery and was lucky enough to get a photo of William’s grave stone. It was really kind of them.
Thank you for your time.

Thank you Sandra for the research you have done for me. Recently I found that William had two sons which I confirmed from the censuses. This led me to finding certain entries on Family Search for the two sons. Then an obituary for one.
I have to shut down at the moment but will get back to you tomorrow. Super excited at the extra that you have sent.
Thanks meantime

Did send you a pm yesterday with more up to date details on relatives.
William Alexander crossed the border 26 May 1948. He was on his way to start a job with EMSCO Derrick and Equipment Co. Los Angeles and to reside permanently.

Hi Sandra
Thank you so much for your PM and all that you have done for me. I am sitting at the moment piecing it all together. I did have some information from the family search site but the newspaper clippings are of particular interest.
This particular side of my family had been dormant for a while. Then I found a John McPherson Barron, same name as my grandfather, on family search. It took me a while to confirm that I was following the correct family.
I will get back to you later today. Thanks again.

Hi Sandra
I think I have got my head around all the information you sent. The bit that initially confused me was the marriage of William Alexander in 1959. I had perhaps thought that his wife was Bette Garcia the name on his Naturalisation papers but is actually Betty Arnold. It looks like it was a rather grand wedding. I did find a William Alexander Barron aged 94 living in Walnut Creek. Names matched names on John's obituary.
I did find what I think was the death of Madeline, wife of John. If you have access to newspapers the obituary indicates it is from the East Bay Times 20th January 2013. It mentions Robert and David. Also grandchildren.
I need to rest my brain now.
