Hi,
Not sure of the correct protocol so apologies if I have this wrong: I have a marriage listed on FamilySearch (details below) that I am trying to find out more information before I request the Certificate/Extract - the marriage is for:
James DAVIES and Susannah JONES
- in 1820 at St John The Baptist, Hereford....
just wondering if SKS with access could please help me find the actual date together with parents/witnesses to the marriage if possible.
In addition I am trying to get a picture of the St Johns Church where they married - there's one shown on Wiki but not sure if it is that one in Llanrothal or another?
Appreciate any help.....thanks........Tom.

Tom,
I see from the Herefordshire Marriage Index that James Davies m. Susannah Jones at St John the Baptist, Hereford, on 29 October 1820.
If you are still in need of some kind person to do a look-up, I could do it for you - when the Hereford Record office opens next. At present, it opens for only one week each month - the next open week being in early August.

Thankyou Jean,
Sorry for the late reply but I do appreciate your offer - if it's no trouble then I would be grateful to find the details of their parents to fill in some gaps...........Tom

hi tom, I notice in your original post you mentioned a photo of the church, there are a few posts on the Herefordshire board about St. john the Baptist Hereford, which suggest it is part of the cathedral, specifically the north trancept.
Jeans lookup will confirm this

Tks Mazi, will have a look at those

hello Tom,
Today, I was at the Hereford Cathedral Library – which has the original Marriage Register for St John the Baptist – covering the year 1820.
Unfortunately, the Marriage Register in 1820 did not include the sort of information which you were hoping for – e.g. no details of parents. The entry reads –
James Davis of this parish & Susannah Jones of this parish were married in this church by banns this 29 October 1820 by me Christopher Jones, officiating minister.
The mark of James Davis (x)
The mark of Susannah Jones (x)
In the presence of George Davis (x) & Thomas Hall (s)
There were no other details.
If you need another look-up, just let me know. I don’t mind doing it for you.
I’m interested in any of the inhabitants of the City of Hereford from the 1500s to 1851.

Was extremely nice of you to do that for me and I do appreciate going out of your way.......
From what you mention, it has given additional information in a George Davis being present at the wedding .....interestingly some 3 years later a George was born to James and Susannah in Foy which seems to suggest that the witness may have been a sibling or parent to the groom as I have not come across that name before.
Likewise Jones also being the name of the Minister and the Bride .....then, it is Wales and those names are quite common - but now I have much more to go on ;D
Thank you for that............Tom

Tom,
Assuming that James Davies & Susannah Davies (nee Jones) were still alive at the time of the 1851 Census, what were their ages & their places of birth?
I'm still wondering whether both or either of them were "genuinely" City of Hereford people.

Jean,
I have no details at all on this pair.....had been working backwards from the marriage on 8 Oct 1878 at St Marks Monmouth between Arthur DAVIES (b abt 1855 Bishopstone) and Jane Elizabeth COAKHAM (b abt 1858 Welsh Newton)
Previous post here started that thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,640469.0.html
Had pretty much sorted out the COAKHAM line back to Essex and am now working on the DAVIES side to see if the Marriage details you provided gave additional clues to find family through census etc...
The only reference in the Census found in 1861 was at Crickhowell - gratefully provided by Rosie and I don't want to cross post in this thread which was more specific to the 1820 marriage to see if additional details were there for confirmation etc
I appreciate your help
