Hi guys, I'm trying to find out my great aunts maiden name. She married my great uncle Bernard M Caulfield in the forties, I think in Slough. Ivy was born in 1908, I think in London and Bernard was born in 1912 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Before they emigrated to Florida, USA in 1947 they resided in Slough. Ivy died on 1st September 1983 & Bernard 31st May 1975 in Florida. All I've know her has is Ivy May Caulfield but I would love to know her maiden name to trace her side of the family. I hope someone can help, many regards David.

Hi David
FreeBMD has the index entry for the marriage of Bernard M Caulfield to Ivy M Santon or Earl, Jun qtr 1947 Eton 6a 999.
www.freebmd.org.uk
The indexing of alternative surnames Santon and Earl for Ivy suggests she may have had a previous marriage.
-
Also from FreeBMD: this is likely to be an earlier marriage for Ivy:
Marriage, Jun qtr 1941
Ivy M EARL or WHITEFOOT
Edward SANTON
Eton 3a 4396
-
...and this is likely to be Ivy's first marriage:
Marriage, Dec qtr 1926
Ivy M WHITEFOOT
Edward F C EARL
Willesden 3a 644
-
Possible birth is as Ivy May Whitefoot, Sep qtr 1908 Paddington.

Hi there, thanks for your swift reply. So are you saying her maiden name was Earl and she married then diviorced (or through death) Edward Santon before marrying my great uncle Bernard? And where does the Whitefoot come into it.
-
are you saying she was a Whitefoot then married an Edward Earl, then an Edward Santon and then Bernard?
-
It looks like Ivy May was Ivy May Whitefoot (poss birth reg Sept qtr 1908 Paddington
She married
1. Edward F C Earl

1930 (Jun qtr): Birth of a son in Willesden
1930-1941: Divorce? of Ivy & Edward FC EARL
1941 (Jun qtr): Ivy remarries to Edward SANTON
1942 (Jun qtr): Edward FC EARL remarries to Dorothy M PATTERSON
Before mid-1947: Divorce? of Ivy and Edward SANTON
1947 (Jun qtr): Ivy remarries to Bernard M CAULFIELD
1947 (Jun qtr): Edward SANTON remarries to Annie J MORRIS?

Ivy's first husband Edward F C EARL seems likely to be Edward Frederick Charlton EARL, 1899-1951. After his death (3 Sep 1951, Chelsea) letters of administration were granted to his widow Dorothy May EARL.
-
Electoral registers show that by 1935 Ivy was living separately from Edward Frederick Charlton Earl; indeed she was at 88 High St, Willesden with Edward Santon (future husband?), Joseph Santon, Alfred Wanless, George Francis Whitefoot and Doris Winifred Whitefoot.
From other records it looks as though the last two named may have been Ivy's brother (b 1905) and sister-in-law.

Hi guys i've found a 1911 census on free family search but it only gives her details and not her parents. Can't find her 1911 census on any other genealogy sites. please help
-
are you restricting your 1911 search by age? She's on Ancestry but her age has been mistranscribed as 20 rather than 2, due to the rather twiddly tail
-
Got you, you're brilliant. . Why didn't I see it before, according to the census Ivy's father George would have been eight when she was born, hence transcription error. Thanks very much Mabel, many regards, David.

Just to add mix things up a bit more, it looks as though Ivy's brother George Francis Whitefoot and sister-in-law Doris nee Few must have divorced during the 1940's. George F Whitefoot married Doris E Reynolds in Northampton in 1947 and Doris Whitefoot or Few married Joseph Santon in Willesden in 1949. Presumably the same Joseph Santon who lived with the family in the 1930's.
