Hi,
Does anyone know what happened to Washingborough Zoo Lincoln as we remember taking our son there in the late 1960s early 70s.We did ask a few years ago in the tourist information before it moved up the hill but they had never heard of it.They were too young.

Hi Kathy :)
My cousin married in 1970 and lived in Washo for a few years. I asked her about it. She replied, "There was a sort of zoo about 2 miles out of washingborough going towards Bardney. It didn't last long. I never went but it didn't look more than a field to me and a few buildings."

Hi Kathy,
Not actually a zoo, a smallholding with some animals, this belonged to "Ginger" Newton, He wintered seaside donkeys, he had horses and a carriage and some other small animals.
It didn't last very long, I remember our girls going around 1975 for a horse and carriage ride.

Hi Geoff and Louthlass :) :) :) :)
Many thanks for your replies we wondered what had happened to it when we went with our 4yrs old son we found donkeys,a small bison, goats, rabbits, pony's chickens a few birds including a myna bird which every time you walked by it said "what you doing What you doing?"and my son said to me you know what I'm doing and it was funny to see his face when the myna bird repeated it. When we went there were no Carriage rides. :( :(
Thanks for the background as its satisfied our curiousity as what happened to it as when we went to a funeral about 2yrs ago and the wake was held in Washingborough village and we couldn't see any sign of it as we travelled along the road.

Mr Newton also did a bit of horse dealing, we purchase a pony for our daughter from him. He also used to take his donkeys to local gala's and fete's for donkey races.
