Post by: queenswood 1 on Wednesday 08 June 05 22:30 BST (UK)
I am trying to trace the marriage of thomas shemilt to Jane sometime between 1840 and 1855. They were born in the Ipstones/Bucknall /Caverswall area
Many thanks- Caroline

Thank you. Goodness- this related to research I was doing over 10 years ago. Thank you for the marriage date. I have looked quickly in my files and I seem to have recorded the following children of Thomas and Jane:
David 1846 Ipstones- died 1897
Ellen 1848 Ipstones- died Mar Q 1928 Stoke
Thomas 1850 Whiston - died Sep Q 1911 Stoke
John 1852 Whiston
Anne 1860 Hanley
George 1862 Cheddleton
Jane and Olive 1866 Cheddleton
Mary 1870 Caverswall

I have Jane Finney died 1881 Stoke and husband Thomas died 1903- Church Eaton.
I have not re- visited my research on this family for some years and would appreciate your comments if any of this info is incorrect bearing in mind it is also part of your family! My mother was the 2nd great grand daughter of Thomas Shemilt through the Milner family which was on her maternal side. My mother's mother was born Lilian Milner in 1904. Hope this helps- please let me know if I am off beam completely! I do also know that the shemilts were several generations of butchers and apparently my own mother was on course to marry a butcher from Stoke before she met my father on a Civil Service course in London! Funny turn of events.
