By any chance have you traced any GREEN's back to Sudbury or Essex?

I noticed you have another post related to a "Sophia GREEN" - My father has made some note about a "Sophia Amelia Green" who may be the aunt of Lenton Coote Green, who was born in Sudbury in 1860, though I'm not sure if that timing would work out, nor can I find from my father's notes exactly how she is his aunt.

Hello all :D

I too have 'GREENS' from Sudbury in my ancestry,    earliest 'Green' is Ewin Green who married Elizabeth Linton (surname spelt Lenton as well) in 1753 Suffolk.   Following generations have Lenton/Linton for middle names.    Be happy to help where I can if you need info.

Cheers   ;D

Kimberly!
You are officially my new distant relative/best friend...
My father has been researching our history for years, and has some lineages going back to the 1600's, which is why I was kind of disappointed having another look at my ahnentafel he sent me to find that every single line stemming back from his own mother finishes at the 3rd-great-grandparent point. I don't know whether or not he has already been in contact with you at some point and not let me on on it, but if not, I bet he would be super interested in what info you have!

Robert Lenton Green, born ~1784 in Sudbury and who married Mary Stammers on the 18th May 1809 (and had about 15 kids!), is my great-great-great-grandfather... but this is as far back as we have traced that line, to my knowledge. I don't think we even have any information regarding his siblings, although from him and his children downward my father seems to have quite a reasonable amount of info.

Dad has been recording some stuff on this site:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2395857&id=I515239415

Your earliest Green marriage does wonders in explaining why the names Lenton and Ewin pop up in later generations as both middle and first names and would take what we have back a generation or two - would love any information you have regarding Ewin Green and Elizabeth Linton and their children/grandchildren?

Thanks so much,
Sophie

Robert Lenton Green, bn 1784, married Mary Stammers bn c 1791. Their 15 children (most of whom died in the workhouse of consumption when Robert died young) included Edward Coote Green bn 1815 and Sophia Amelia Green bn 1831. Edward Coote's son Lenton Coote Green, bn 1860, was my maternal grandfather. I have not been able to trace any ancestors of Robert senior (one of the 15 children was also Robert Lenton) and would be ecstatic  to find how the 1753 marriage of Ewin Green and Elizabeth Linton fits in, Kimberly.

Hi all :D

I am working on the connection with Robert Lenton Green and how he fits in as well....Ewin Green had two sons (the only two I know of)   Ewin and Abishai.    I have found a marriage for Ewin,  but no children as yet.    It maybe that Abishai Green may have had more children (Robert included) but does not show up yet..... ::)

If I have any titbits....will pass on via Rootschat.

Sophie....will PM you today. :)

Regards

Kimberly

Hi all again :)

Have spent some time on Robert Lenton Green,  but as usual he is not giving out any secrets... however,  I have a theory,  be it wrong or right I will keep it on the back burner until I prove it.

I think perhaps Abishai Green and Sarah Goody maybe the parents of Robert Lenton Green,  as you know not everyone is mentioned on IGI,  the DOB fits in with their time frames,  and I have no proof of where he was actually born,  does anyone?  be happy to squash this theory if proved.    Like I said earlier,  I could be wrong...but I will work on it until I find out for sure.....   Any thoughts welcome ;D

Regards

Kimberly

Lenton Coote and Susan Martha Wright are my grandparents. He was born 1860, died 1899 (not 1896), they married 26 Oct. 1897. He was 39 at death.  He was interred with Military Honours as a  Colour Sergeant in Sudbury Company of Volunteers, reputed to be best rifleshot in Suffolk, and won prizes  at Bisley.Owned Lime kiln(s) & chalk pit on Cornard Road. Our family has the  music box which was his was his via his aunt (?), Sophia Amelia Green. And the  Tollemache cup, wedding ring, gold watch, seal/watch key he won for shooting. He died of pneumonia after watching football match in winter rain; lived East St., Sudbury and owned lime kiln(s) &  a chalk pit on Cornard Road.
