Hello,
I am looking for relations of:
Norman Arthur William Radford
B:13 MAY 1922 in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, South Africa
D:19 JUL 2009 in Durban
He married Esme Audrey Carlson.
From the records I have it appears that they lived in England from 1925 onwards, they lived in Portslade. Esme is now Radford and is listed as a housewife. I don't have Esme's death date, so I am unsure if Norman remarried if Esme died before him.
I got his details from another family tree and ancestry, so there must be people out there who are researching these two people.
If any relations of this couple are out there and read this please get in touch (email address removed to stop spam email, please use the Private Message system for exchange of information)
We have just found that we live around the corner from the house they lived in in England, if any of their relations are in England, Esme is my partners great aunt. It would be wonderful to be in touch with them.
Many thanks,
Jemilla

If you look on www.eggsa.org under gravestones and search for Radford there is a tombstone for Esme Audrey who died on 15 January 1960. It would appear that she had a son David. As he could still be alive if I find out anything more I will send it in a pm.

I now think the above information is incorrect as I have found that she died in 1942. The details in the archives are as follows:
DEPOT TAB SOURCE MHG TYPE LEER VOLUME_NO 0 SYSTEM 01 REFERENCE 996/60 PART 1 DESCRIPTION RADFORD, ESME AUDREY. BORN CARLSON. STARTING 19420000 ENDING 19420000 REMARKS SURVIVING SPOUSE NORMAN ARTHUR WILLIAM RADFORD
If you want a copy of the will I suggest you order it through eggsa as shown in the sticky's. It could possibly give you information on her children.

Hello,
Thank you for your pointers and advice, it's appreciated. However, I'm confused about this. Could there have been two Esme Audrey Carlson's born at the same time in the same place?
This woman is my partners great aunt, she is the sister to his grandma who is still living.
His grandma came over to England in 1949 to work. So did Esme, they lived at the same address in Sussex. On the immigration record they are listed differently because Esme was already married at this point and was known as 'Radford'. She was 24 then and arrived in Southampton on the 16th Sept 1949, along with her sister Dulcie Carlson and they lived in Sussex.
Dulcie was only in England for 6 months, on the immigration record it states that Esme's place of home is England, which would make sense for Dulcie to come over as she was 18.
The only way Esme could have got a British passport / visa would be to marry an English man. But Norman Radford died in South Africa and was born in South Africa.
A mystery! Thank you again

You are confused - well so am I!!
The archive's show her surviving spouse as Norman, but then so does the tombstone! The tombstone is in the Stellawood cemetery which is in the Durban Area. I am inclined to think that the tombstone is correct as the 1942 date would have made her 17 when she died. Possibly the archive date has just been entered incorrectly? Do you have Esme's date of birth?
Do you know whether Dulcie came back to South Africa - perhaps we could find out more about her.
Will continue looking!
