Title: Birth Certificate in Austria
Post by: johnsmith3562 on Sunday 21 April 13 15:19 BST (UK)
Hi there,

I am trying to get a copy of my mothers birth certificate, as we have lost her original.  She was born on 26th November 1930 in Voitsberg and registered in Koflach .  Can you help please.

Thanks

John

in Austria civil records started in 1938, before always records only at churches to find.
when she was born Voitsberg i do not understand wy she should have been registered in Köflach, as both have their own churches. and think it could have been vice versa. it looks more that Köflach (smaller church) is under Voitsberg to get (for both same e-mail-adress). ;) as it belonges to Dekanat Voitsberg. i sent you both links for the parish-churches so you can see it.
but no matter - so only one e-mail-adress for writing :)

parish-church-office/Pfarramt Voitsberg:

contact parish-church-office Köflach shows the same: http://www.dekanat-voitsberg.at/koeflach/index.php

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.  I have now been told that my mother was born and registered in Voitsburg, and was baptized in Koflach.

Is there any way you could help me, and request a copy of my mothers birth certificate, and any other information regarding her family.  My German is very limited.  I would of course pay any costs in getting her documents.

My mother (*) was born on 26th November 1930.  Her parents names are Josef and Karoline Zweidik.

I hope you can help, and I would be very grateful to you.

Many thanks

John Smith

Because of the time period involved, and as your mother is living, I would think that she would have to contact directly (or yourself on her behalf).  I'm not sure what Austrian privacy laws are like but if it's anything like other areas of Europe a 1930s record probably isn't accessible to non-relatives.

You can use form letters to  help when contact the church (e.g. http://www.genealogienetz.de/misc/letters/ ), although there may well be someone there who can speak some English.

please, you can write in english always, we learn it at school in Austria.  ;D
is no problem.
ask for the costs too, but what i know not the world.  ;)
and they will tell you if would need an attachment sent which shows relationship (like copy of her passport or so).
write and see what happens.
good luck!

for ancestors-research - if you want - you can ask at diocesan-archive Graz - also in english ;)
