Hello all,
Just a quick update in case you are interested in helping with the next batch of Monumental inscriptions. NFHS are having the first meeting at the Mansfield cemetery (Sat Nav ref NG18 5BJ) on 25th May meeting at 10.30am in the car park.
It is worth wearing stout comfortable shoes, older cloths, and bringing:
a kneeler
Secateurs
a stick of chalk
a wall paper scraper
a brush
pen or pencil, and a clip board.
You might not need to many of the above, but all useful if the cemetery is as over grown as the last one we did!
Also well worth bringing a flask of tea, and a bit of something to eat.
Hope to see you there, it is a surprising enjoyable project!
Best wishes,

Hi
I would love to have helped as i live in Mansfield, do You always meet on Saturdays to do your Memorial Inscriptions. Will there be any other dates do you think?
Best Regards Rachael

Hi Rachel,
Thank you for your interest!
The meeting this Saturday is to determine the way the project goes. In the past on the two projects I have helped on, they have both tended to be on Saturdays, though I have a feeling some folk did meet up on one day in the week - so I guess that will be discussed!
It will be happening for a long time, so you will be very welcome as a casual, or as a long term recorder! If you think that we will be working through the whole cemetery recording all the names and dates off each stone..... so it could be a couple of summers work.
If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask, and I will do my best to help!
Best wishes,
Copperbeech5

Well Folks,
Just as update the NFHS have now started the inscriptions at Mansfield Graveyard - and how lucky were we with our start day weather - and not to mention all the singing birdies!
But if ever anyone fancies a day out helping, just come and see if it's for you!!
The car park we meet in is accessed from Forest Hill - right at the top of the lane - the gateway to your right ( and NOT the crematory car park as I discovered today!!)
It looks highly likely that some of the group will meet in the week too, and if anyone wants any more direct info please email the link on this page:

Just as an update, we met again today for another glorious day in Mansfield grave yard.
The plan is to keep meeting at 10.30am on All Saturdays (weather permitting), at the car park accessed by the Forest Hill Rd. Not yet heard of any weekday meetings.
Any questions, please PM me!

Hi Folks,
Just as another update the recordings go on, the group are trying to see if there are enough people to do a week day too, for anyone who is put off by a Saturday date.
If you are interested you can contact Nottinghamshire Family History Society by going to the Web site and following the links or by emailing your name to recordings[at]nottsfhs.org.uk and then the organiser will include you on the information emails so that you don't miss out!
It is fascinating and a very pleasant way to spend your day - honest!!
Best wishes,
