...........But he is wearing a Black Watch sporran, KOSB sporran has two long black tails (tassles) He has no regimental insignia on his belt buckle, KOSB glengarry was diced, KOSBs wore a Leslie tartan as well as Royal Stewart, which I don't think this is, I concede the badge is probably KOSB.
The plaid brooch, if it was KOSB would have the regimental badge in the centre instead of a cairngorm stone
I think this pic was taken in a studio with a mish mash of Highland military clothing loaned for the pic by the studio.

Your deductions are most likely true. I wanted to know for sure because he was in the Royal Navy and when I saw this picture, I was confused.
I will assume it was taken in celebration of his heritage and nothing to do with his Military history.
