Dear Helper,
I am unable to find a marriage of Henry CROSSLEY to Alice unkown in the parish they lived..after marriage. [ Glossop].
The reason i am posting here is that in 1881 Census :
Henry Crossley's s wife Alice was born Holmfirth, Yorkshire, c 1846.
[Henry was born 1843 Glossop. He was an overseer of cotton weavers. in 1881.]
However it seems from census records that this couple lived a long time in Glossop , Derbyshire.
But I dont think they would marry in another county? as below?
There is a record of a marriage of a Henry Crossley to one Alice PATEFIELD in Lancashire 1863 at a registry office.. [most unlikley] our Henry.
Another marriage of Henry Crossley in Lancashire to Alice Wardle, at Elton, All Saints , Bury, Lancashire 1869
All i know for sure is the childrens names, in 1881
Mary 12,
Ruth 10 ,
Humphrey 8,
George 6 ,
Ann 4,
David H aged 1 year.
------- from the children's names i guess Henrys' parents were [from census records ] Humphrey Crossly and Ruth Gill at Glossop.
I cant afford to just buy the many GRO records of Henry Crossleys marriages to find an Alice spouse, so ask for your opinion and assistance
Many thanks

Would the easiest way to confirm Alice's surname, and find the right marriage cert, be to buy a child's birth cert?
Could this be David Henry Crossley's birth in 1879 Dec qtr Hayfield Vol 7b Page 773?

Hello. I've come into this rather late as I've rather neglected RootsChat.
Henry (Harry) Crossley is my Gt Grandfather on my fathers side. He was born in 1843 in Glossop DBY. His father was Humphrey Crossley, a Mechanic, born circa 1811 DBY. His Mother was Ruth Gill born circa 1811 in Glossop DBY. They were married 7/2/1837 in Glossop DBY. Henry married Alice Barber - born in the Sept 1845 quarter in Scholes, Holmfirth (Huddersfield RD) YWR - in Glossop DBY on 1/1/1868. Their witnesses were Sarah Greensmith and William Howard.
I note that the 1861 Census entry for the Barbers says Hayfield DBY, Arundel Street. Arundel St. was/is in Glossop DBY. Hayfield DBY is the RD.
Henry and Alice's children were:
Mary born qe 03/1869 died 23/2/1898
Ruth b qe 06/1870
Humphrey b 5/6/1872
George Amer b qe 06/1875
Ann b 5/8/1876 d 27/4/1945 - My Grandmother
David Henry (Harry) b qe 12/1879 d 1953 Stafford NH USA
William (Bill) b 1832
Cartworth is a hamlet about a mile south of Holmfirth
