Hello All
I would love to find out when my Thomas Matson arrived in Canada.
He was born 1819 in Kingston Upon Hull to a Thomas and Mary Matson.
He married an Elizabeth Preston in Halifax in 1841.
Then in 1852 he came to Australia on board a ship called 'the Margaret'
with his family and passengers including the Reverend McLeod.
Can anyone give me any ideas on where I could start looking for a shipping record for my Thomas Matson.
Many thanks in advance

Hi Troods
Check out this site, there is lots of information for you on passenger lists to Canada for that time period

Troods,
on this site
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nspictou/
there is record of Departure of Barque "Aurora" for Australia 1852. It only gives partial passenger list of those embarking at Pictou, NS and states more passengers embarked at Halifax. Might be somewhere to start looking ;)

Hi Troods,
Have not found your Thomas Matson's arrival in N.S. , but did find a record of his departure to Australia. You probably
already have this, but just in case, here it is
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/Sebim.html
I see that he was the captain of "the Margaret". I wonder if he came to N.S. as captain or crew member of a ship, rather than as a passenger? Might make him almost impossible to trace, if he just "jumped ship" in Halifax. I'll do some more looking when I have some spare time.
Cheers,
Carmela

Hi Troods
I wonder if you'd have any luck here http://shipslists-online.rootschat.net/canada/
It might be a tough one to track

Thanks alot for that website Eillo I had not come across that one before.
Have added that one to my favourites.
I did a quick search and did not find anything for that period I am looking for.
However I did learn a few things regarding immigration to Canada so thanks very much.
Kind regards
