Hello,
Harriett VEEN (it may be VENN) married James GILES in St. Mary Magdalene Church on 25th October 1847 and her father is stated as John (according to FreeReg). Based on Census data she was born in about 1818 in Taunton. Does anyone have access to Taunton baptisms for that time and can check for a baptism record. Any help would be appreciated. I cannot find her in the 1841 Census. Many thanks.

Hi, there is a Harriet Venn baptised St James, Taunton 12 Jun 1821. Mother Ann. Abode Poor House. Freereg and transcribed records have this.
I looked through the transcribed baptisms for St Marys but no Venn/Veen around the date you give.

Hello Di,
Many thanks for checking. The Harriet you found may be her although her father is supposedly called John, according to her marriage record - however, if she was illegitimately born to Ann then when she married she may have just made up a father's name to avoid the embarrassment of saying she was illegitimate.
Thanks again. Very kind of you.
Regards,

Hi there
In case you want to search more Taunton parish records. this site is very good http://www.wsom.org.uk/Parreg.html.
You could see if you can find a John Veen, labourer on the 1841 census, might give a clue as to whether he exists or not!
