Title: Toronto Naval Brigade 1861-1863
Post by: Carlm on Wednesday 10 April 13 06:23 BST (UK)
I'm looking for information on the Toronto Naval Brigade from its organization in December 1861 until my great grandfather's death in April 1863.  That's three years BEFORE the Fenian raids in 1866.  I already have sufficient information on the Fenian raids, thank you.
I'm trying to find out why my ggfather was accorded an elaborate military funeral.  Did he do something special for the Brigade?  Was he an officer?  Or was it because he owned a bar on King St. West?
James Maguire, born 1825, Cleggan Townland , Parish of Cleenish, County Fermanagh, Ireland.  Died April 1863, 113-115 King St West, Toronto, of apoplexy.  Interred St. James Cemetery, Toronto.
One wonders if there were photos of the various militias- there were a lot of them formed to counter the Fenian threat.
Cheers
