I have been guided to New Zealand Board for this query. Hope maybe someone would kindly do a look up for me that will throw more light on this family? :-\
Arthur William Preston born 1885 in England (Son of William Preston and Jessie Beer)
Agnes Henry Kerr Smith born 1895 Larbert Stirling Scotland (Daughter of Thomas Smith and Sarah Ballantyne)
Marriage in Possilpark Lanarkshire Scotland in 1917.
Donald Arthur Preston born 1920 (England)
On UK out going passenger lists Passage on Ship Corinthic (from Southampton?) 19th Agust 1920
Destination Port Wellington Newzealand.
Arthur Preston (Labourer age 35)
Mrs Preston age 24
Donald Preston age 1
1928 has them all residing at 37 LOWER HUTT York Street Wellington New Zealand
1932 Departure on Ship (Orosova???) from Brisbane on 1st September 1932 arriving in Tilbury. Going to address New Maldon Surrey)
Arthur William Preston (Clerk age 43)
Donald Preston (age 12 years scholar)
No Mention of Agnes? Where did she go?
From 1928 to 1932 she seems to have dissapeared!!!! (Family story has it that she drowned but can find no suitable death record for her in UK.) Puzzling ???
Thanks

From a quick glance I can't find a death on BMDH for Agnes.
There is nothing showing at Archives NZ for her ie a probate.

I dont have full access to the electoral register but maybe someone who does might be able to check who else was registered with Agnes. Might get a partners name that way.
Agnes Henry Kerr Dent 1958 New South Wales District Banks
Agnes Henry Kerr Dent 1963 New South Wales District Lyne

Agnes Henry Kerr Dent 1958 New South Wales District Banks Port Macquarie
Only DENT listed - she is living at Camping Reserve - occ: home duties
Agnes Henry Kerr Dent 1963 New South Wales District Lyne Port Macquarie
Again she is the only DENT listed : At 3 Munster Street - home duties
Also tried searching on just christian names ... nothing comes up in Australia or New Zealand :

Must thank everyone who have tried to assist me with this puzzle and have taken the time to do some research on my behalf. :)
I am inclined to believe now that she may have divorced and remarried as 'Beg' posted. DENT being her name latterly. The death record for her in 1977 has her parents Christian names correct and her given names which are unusual in themselves also correct. The record unfortunately is pay for view so couldn't get more detail from it.
The electoral roll also seems promising so hopefully some one doing some research that has full access to it will be able to check it out for me. ::)
Need to check out now when she divorced and remarried? ??? She was still married to Arthur W Preston in 1928 according to residency list for Wellington. He and his son returned to UK in Sept 1932. To Lucy 2, Giblet, Beg, and Twiggy Tree, my total thanks and appreciation on this. If I can ever be any help to anyone on Scottish or UK Boards please let me know. Kind Regards C

Hi,
The NSW record is not really "pay to view"
"Buy Now" means you can order the certificate.
General advice is to purchase a transcribed copy of the certificate which is cheaper through a Transcription Agent

Here is a link to what you may find on
Australian certificates-

Thanks for the links and information, Sue re: 'Pay to View' records. Once I have had time to absorb everything posted in response to my questions between the NewZealand and Australian Boards I will try the Transcription Service out. Thanks Carol ::)

Hi C.
See earlier post re: electoral information (highlighted in blue). That I'm afraid, is the full extent of information available.

Hi again
In one of your other threads, you mentioned that Arthur William PRESTON remarried (to another SMITH, I think it said ?)
> Can you tell us the date (year), and place of that marriage, please ?

Hi Lu There was a fair bit of info on the electoral rolls on previous post. Just always hoping for that something extra. Ha! Think the post by 'Ballydw' might be a no....
Information had Arthur W Preston departing from Glasgow on the ship Transylvania as a widower aged approx 35. Bound for New york arrival date 17th June 1928. Seemed fair enough but my concern there was his occupation being a miner (and him a prior Army pensioner. some form of physical disability? He married a Mary F Smith born Scotland age 28. in Kanawha West Virginia and 1930 census had them at Cabin Creek Canawha W Virginia.
However by fluke chance I came across a family tree link on UK boards which was a certainty for Agnes and Arthur Preston which I thought took them to Australia as there was a return passage citation from Brisbane back to UK which I couldn't view due to my limited subscription. However with the help of researchers on Australian and NewZealand Boards had both them and their son Donald Arthur age 1 leaving for Newzealand in 1920 and up to 1928 still there. Then 1932 father and son return to UK but no Agnes!!! No death records for her so suggestion of a divorce and remarriage crops up, as does continually the surname DENT ,together with her criteria make it a possibility but is she likey to have moved from wellington to New South Wales ??? Her son only 12 years old on return to UK without his Mum.
Father and son appear to have sat tidy in our family tree from therein since I found them again. His son maried and had his own family. No sign of Arthur ever remarrying and no sign of Agnes. Carol
