Title: Father and son go to Australia from London 1920's returning 1932. Where's Mum?
Post by: creamolafoam on Sunday 07 April 13 00:41 BST (UK)
Arthur William Preston born 1885 in England but married 1917 in Possilpark Glasgow to Agnes Hendry Kerr Smith born 1895 Stirling Scotland. In march 1920 their son Donald Arthur Preston is born in Lewisham in England. Some time after this it would seem they go to Australia as they appear on an Incoming Passenger list ,departing Brisbane Australia and arriving in London 1st September 1932. Donald is 12 years old by then. No sign of Agnes going or coming back. Do not know name of ship or any other details as I am not able to view the records on my subscription.
Can any one do a look up for me please for this family and throw some light on their years abroad? Family story has Agnes maybe drowned sometime after 1920. If it was in UK I can't find a death record for her. Thanks ???

Do you have parents names for Agnes? Most of the aussie death indexes have parents names so its easier to confirm we have the right person.

The return journey in 1932 was on the "Orsova". They arrived on the 1 Sept 1932 Departed from Brisbane and arrived Tilbury. The address given for arrival is New Maldon, Surrey Mr. A. W. is a Clerk aged 43. and Mr. D. A. is a scholar aged 12. Last perminent residence is listed as New Zealand. They are both listed as English with a hand written notation of NZ next to it.

I think you should be looking in New Zealand not Australia.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my post, Ted Scout,  Heather 17, Merlin,  gradually sorting this family out thanks to information given by you all. Especially leading me to the NewZealand Boards. Just to clarify please that Agnes was not on the return trip in 1932 on the "Orsova" with Arthur and Donald? Kind Regards C
