Title: Death - 19th May 1883, Robison/Robinson *Completed* Thank you Sancti!
Post by: BlantyreJoe on Wednesday 03 April 13 20:42 BST (UK)
aaaaaaagh!  I have the details from a birth cert that the husband had died 19 May 1883, but I cant find his death on SP (have tried about 7 possibilities) nor England, nor Ireland (though not sure I'm looking in all the right places there?)

James Robison (although sometimes recorded as Robinson / Robertson) last known in Blantyre and married to Isabella Tolan(d) with 9 children. Aged about 41 and born nr Larne, Co Antrim and married there in Oct 1864 (or Oct 1863) before moving to Maryhill, Glasgow (1871) and then onto Blantyre and the mining industry.

really stumped!  :(

Thanks for any help / pointers.

PS missed Monica at Olympia, but spoke to some other Mods to say how great the website is  :)

Joe

Where did you get the death date from?

It's on the digital image of the birth cert of his  daughter, Margaret, b 25 Jul 1883. Gives the father as "James Robison, Pit Sinker, deceased 19th May 1883"

Well, that definitely looks like him!  But aged 50 is about 9-10 yrs older than i expected. However, his son dies in the Auchenraith Pit, http://scottishmining.co.uk/Indexes/1896deaths.html on March 23 1896 and is recorded as Robertson too, buried at Dalbeth Cemetery. I think there were a lot of Robertsons in the Pits in the Blantyre area and the Robison name just got merged into Robertson.

So now i need to go look for Robertson, at Hamilton, for death cert.

THANKS!!!  :)

These are the only 2

1 1883 ROBERTSON JAMES     aged 71 HAMILTON /LANARK 647/00 0026
2 1883 ROBERTSON JOHN     aged 37 HAMILTON /LANARK 647/00 0247

Has his name been recorded wrongly as John?

Aged 37!  :)  Which fits my records and reminds me that the Pit 'HR' records were poor (although they had an army of accountants  :( )

Father killed in Pit, son killed in Pit, both buried in pauper's graves at Dalbeth, Glasgow.

Sancti - thank you for your help.

Joe.

Yep, wrongly recorded - life was cheap, it was the tonnage that was accurately recorded!

Result  8)

And you can claim your credits back from SP as they indexed it wrongly  ;)

Yep - have sent request for some credit - see what happens!

FOOTNOTE - the son, recording the death, Alexander, has his name recorded as ROBISON [which I believe is correct, and on other documents of his father and mother] and then this is 'corrected' to fit with Robertson.

Doing this search is SO much easier with help!!  :)
