Title: Raffaele or Philip Valente
Post by: FullMentalJaikie on Tuesday 02 April 13 16:17 BST (UK)
I am looking to see if any of you good people could shed some light on a search block I have come across.
My Gr.Grandfather, who died in 1945-50 is coming up an awful lot in searches as Philip Valente, I mean there are just too many coincidences for it not to be him, But one of my Uncles said his name was Ralph, Which is what we called my Father, whose real name was John Raffaele Milne. In doing a search, a R Valenete came up in the phone book for Pollockshaws Rd for the time period, An address which I know for certain he did live at.
My Uncle said his first name and not his middle name was definiitely Ralph

Appreciate any help in advance.

Have you checked for his death registration to see what names were shown?

Was he born in Scotland?  A look at his birth reg will show his christian names

Hi...me again  ::) ;)

I would have my eye on this death entry:

Fillipo Valente died aged 57 in 1959 in Govan. Husband of Grazia (P)enna. An icecream manufacturer. Living at 120 Duke Street but died at 1301 Govan Road (hospital address?).

I think 1301 Govan Road is connected to the Southern General Hospital address set.

  :) Thanks agin Monica,

Why do you think there would be so much confusion over his forename?

Not sure really - can always be lots of reasons really...depending on the family dynamics really  :-\

Are you somewhere near one of the main genealogy centres to be able to check more modern certs online - such as Glasgow or Edinburgh?

You know from this morning how we got to Phillip for a possible father for your grandmother. But, none of this info has been confirmed either with what we think is her birth cert in 1926 or her marriage etc.

It is always a stage at a time really. Without stressing the point, as as example, the Ralph name could come in as either a sibling to grandmother or an uncle to her etc  ???

Would you believe, from the parent details for Fillipo, I have found parents' details back to Italy for his parents  ::)

Michele Valente born in Filignano on 30 Mar 1876 to Antonio Valente and Santa Coia. Michele married Marianna Izzi....and parents...

Marianna Izzi born in Filignano on 6 Mar 1872 to Francesco Izzi and Maria Cristina Faccenda. Marianna married Michele Valente...and parents...

But...all of this means nothing in genealogy without documentary evidence or some form of confimation  :'(
