Hi Jeffers27,

The writing in general is terrible, however, like Geoff-E i would say that it is 4 Spark Street.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

My first reaction was 4 Spark Street

I think Spark too.
There is a Spark Road in Manchester. I don't know the area so don't know if it would be Ancoats, but I'm sure someone will.

added: Ancoats is inner city Manchester and the Spark Road I found is on the outskirts so doesn't look like the same place.

I take it this document is a birth or baptism? If the address given is Spark St, how do you know Spark St is in Ancoats?

You could also look for the family on the 1871 and 1881 census to see if they happen to be living in the same street. Also perhaps check siblings birth/baptisms to see what address is given.

Awful writing - what is the father's name? I was going to try to find them in the censuses ....

After much searching, I found a Sparks Street on an old map of Ancoats.
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=385720,398230

Select the 1891 Town Plans (1:500) map on the right hand side, and zoom in.

I think this is the right street, because on the 1911 census Spark Street was enumerated shortly after Harding Street and Every Street, the main street near where Sparks Street was located. On some schedules it is written as Spark and others as Sparks.

Thanks to everyone. Yes it looks good for sparks street. I have used the cencus results for years tracing the unsworths but this address is totally new to me. Never seen it come up on any of my documents so thrilled with this new info. Now scrutinising the old maps. Alexander thanks for that map. yes i can see where it is now just off back every street. Price street is where they were living in 1878 and that is also a stones throw from sparks street.
It is indeed an old baptism record that i found.
Brilliant, thanks so much to you all. This is the best site on the net.
kind regards,
jeff

Hello,
The couple George and (Annie) Hannah nee Bromley were married in 1875

The couple had several children baptised with differing addresses (none apart from Martha = Spark Street)

George - baptised 1878 - address  30 Price Street

When Martha Elizabeth got married in 1896 the address she gave was 94 Every Street which was where George (her father's) parents (Thomas and wife) lived.

In 1891 the family were at 106 (looks like) Tame Street from the census.

In 1881 4 Spark Street was occupied by the Costello family.

Regards,
Susan

Hi Susan.
Yeah thanks for looking but i have all this down. i am just re building my website but there is a bit on george and hannah (Annie) here. so you can see i am well up on them.
What i do have is another baptism of their last child Annie. the address is split between two addresse's and as you will see from the webpage link here http://www.unsworthfamilyhistory.com/jeffs%20new%20website/George%20and%20Hannah%20Unsworth.html
in 1881 george and hannah are seperated(yes it may be just that they were at different houses on the day but why call her children bromley and not unsworth?) so when i found this next baptism and two addresses which incidently i cannot read either, it seemes to clarify the seperation. i will put theat baptism up soon and see if anyone can help with that one.thanks again ,jeff

Hi again,

I suppose you know that in 1881 George was back with his parents.at Every Street.
In 1891 he was with "Annie" again.at 106 either Tame or Tarne Street

I found their child Annie's baptism record in 1887.  The address' are 4 Warren Street - then a dash - then Harding Street.  I think someone mentioned Harding Street before on the maps.

Susan

Ps - lovely web site.  Well done - so sad about Hannah.  My own mum died from burns after a house fire.

ok so the same family as yesterday but different child. the abode / address is split between both parents and shows them both here. They are both without doubt within earshot of Every Street,Ancoats.
Trouble is i cannot once again decipher them?? please please help again, thanks.
