Hi all :)
I'm a Gowan, originally from Dumfries but now living in Oz. I've traced my family tree back to James Gowan born in 1821. He married Margaret Craik born in 1823. They had children Douglas b1846, James b1849, Margaret b1851, Alexander b1854, and Mary b1859.
My question is this - does anyone have any information on parents of either James Gowan or Margaret Craik? And the associated birth and death dates?
I'd be happy to hear from anyone with any information on the Gowans in Dumfries too :-)
Thanks!

Hi ,
I think your looking for Mary Craik rather than Margaret Craik :-\
Mary Gowan(other surname Craik) death 1890 Ladhope Roxburgh , born c1823 on Scotlandspeople.

Hi again,
That's fantastic! Where did you find that? I've been searching for ages via various search methods ;-)
Now if I could just find James' parents.... :-)
Thanks again!

I found the death by searching the index on Scotlandspeople website , the certificate should have his parents names if known by the informant.

Hi Claire, I would be interested in finding out if we share a common ancestor. It seems my paternal side was from SW Scotland before arrival in America.
