Hi,
My g/grandfather (Robert Saunders) was buried in Hemdean Road, Cemetery, Caversham in 1911 and I have a photograph of the gravestone.
I have since found out that my g/grandmother (Emma Jane) was also interred in the same plot in 1939 and in later years my two aunts & and uncle's cremated remains were placed in there as well.
I'm wondering if sks would be willing and able to take a digital photograph of the gravestone for me please in the hope that additional entries may have been engraved upon it.
I have obtained details from the Adminstrator, Reading Crematorium that the plot is No. 2 / 860
Hemdean Road Cemetery, Caversham.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

Alan,
I took a walk around the cemetery recently - even dragged OH into the hunt! I should perhaps have asked you before I went for an idea of where in the cemetery the grave was located, or a picture of the headstone as you had last seen it.
The churchyard, although well-kept, does not have a plan pinned up anywhere. Many of the headstones are now illegible either from a significant amount of ivy that has overgrown them, or because they are no longer upright :-\
We looked but did not find the gravestone. But I can tell you that there were lots of primroses out.
If you can provide any further clues - preferably visual, I'll see what I can do if I'm in the area again.

Hello Nell,
Thats very nice of you to offer to look for my g.grandparents grave stone. The only photo I have, is (hopefully) attached. I also have a letter from the Administrator of Reading Crematorium confirming
just who is buried in the same plot.
Experience has shown me that these gravestones are quite often, as you say, overgrown, well and truly weathered and at various angles.
Unfortunately, I don't have a plan of the burial ground.
I look forward to seeing whatever you can find, at your leisure.

Hi Nell,
For some unknown reason I wasn't able to send both attachments in the same reply.
This is the confirmatory letter from the Administrator of Reading Crematorium saying
just exactly who is interred in this plot (2/860)
regards

Thanks for the picture. It might just help. I have a more definite idea of where it might be. But I have to say that an awful lots of these cross type stones were lying flat - with the inscription face down. :(
