I have information that a Thomas Edgar White married a Helen Nellie Ratcliffe in 1934.
I'm trying to find out if this Thomas is my ancestor. My Thomas was born in 1910 (the same year as abovementioned Thomas) in Durham, England, and I believe my Thomas emigrated to NZ in 1926 onboard the SS Rotorua as part of the Flock House Sheepowners Scheme for Boys.
I cannot find any further information on Thomas in NZ to try and confirm that he is in fact my ancestor. My Thomas' parents were Thomas 'Edgar' White and Margaret Keady Brewis.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi Bails,
A Thomas Edgar White died in NZ on 4 May 1952 aged only 42, exactly matching the year of birth you provided.
Edited to add: The source for this information was NZ BDM online. https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/home/
The exact date of death was determined by narrowing the search parameters.

His probate appears on the Archives New Zealand search portal, Archway. He was a roadman.
It's the only reference I could see.

Thomas appears on this page, an alphabetical list of Flock House Boys. It provides the individual's origin, vessel they emigrated on, year, and draft number.

I think you can safely say that his wife was Helen RATCLIFFE!

There is a family tree here which mentions Thomas and several children.

Thanks everyone for helping out. Amazing what you can find on the internet these days!
All the information is great; however, I still can't definitely find a link to say that this is my ancestor. I'm also a year out on being able to order their marriage certificate to determine the facts.
I think I might order his death certificate and see what that tells me.
Cheers!

Hi KHP
I have never heard of the Death Printout. Do you buy it from the GRO website? Why does it have more info on it? Have I been wasting my time (and money) on certificates?
Thanks
Bails :)
-
Hi Bails,
No, not from the GRO, but from the BDM website here in NZ.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0a93/
The reason it has more information is that it will be a copy of the original entry and won't have any transcription errors.
Hope this helps.

Oh yeah! Thanks KHP, I forgot that Thomas died in NZ... duh. I have another Thomas White that I posted about (from Cornwall, England ) and got a bit confused about which one I was reading ::)
I'll look into it.

Hello Bails, my name is Margarette Stewart, 62, born in Gisborne, North Island, New Zealand. My dad was Thomas Edgar White, born in Durham, England 1910. All of what has been said in your research. We have 7 in our family(*). My gandmothers name was Margaret Keady Brewis. :)
Hope this helps.
(*) Edit by Moderator: Margarette, welcome to Rootschat. ;D
I have removed the names of your siblings from this post as some are still living. RootsChat policy places a lot of emphasis of protection of personal privacy to avoid the risks of identity theft, spam, etc. and members are encouraged to use the Personal Message (PM) system to discuss living persons. You will need to make another two posts for your PM facility to become active.
Best wishes for your research. ;D

Hi Margarette,
Welcome to Rootschat. :) I am sure bails will be pleased to hear from you.
It is a rule of Rootschat that we don't put the names of living on the board, to protect their privacy.
You will need to post twice more, a hello or one of the smilies above will do, then you will be able to use the PM (Personal Message) System with bails to exchange private information.
Cheers

Thanks one and all for the information provided to help me in my search. You never know what (or who) may pop up, and I am pleased to say that Thomas' daughter has made contact and we've been swapping notes. I now know that he is from my family tree and I am delighted to have unearthed a living relative that I did not know existed!
Cheers
