Hi
Anyone know where the Globe Inn was in Pontypridd ?

In 1901 my family member George Griffiths was at Globe Inn, High Street, Pontypridd.
It was subsequently run by another family member David William Evans.
I have been told ownership remained in our family until the 1950s although we did not run it after 1916.

Thanks Dave I was looking to see where it was since someone in my tree was here in the 1850's. I can't see it on Google streetview, so I wondered if it's gone or ? changed it's name. There was a photo taken in 1900 on the NLW http://www.peoplescollectionwales.co.uk/Item/7401 but it's impossible to say where it was (the photo is of pigeon fanciers outside the pub).
Do you know where it was roughly on High Street, or if it's still there but called something else ?

It is, I believe, now called Globe Hotel, still High Street, Pontypridd.

At last, following the enumerator's schedules in your 1901 census, Found it. It's now called the Maritime Inn (but it was for sale in 2009).
Thanks very much for the 1901 census help Dave!

Hello, The Globe is now called the Maritime Arms. It is on High Street which is in the area called "The Graig" it is under the railway bridge up the Graig Hill about 200 Metres on the left. It is opposite the entrance to Dewi Sant Hospital. I believe it is still open tho there is a for sale sign outside. :)

Thanks Ruchca I thought it was Inn not Arms from the photo I saw. I'll have to see if there any old photos of it before it changed name (whenever that was).
Cheers

I know it was refrerred to in a report in 1852 as the "Globe Public House" and as you say, I have found refrences to it as the Globe Inn and in 1900 the Globe Hotel. I wonder why it was called the the "Globe".

My grandmother was his granddaughter. She is still alive and tells me that he was generous host in the pub but a terrible businessman.
