I'm helping a friend resolve a mystery.
Looking for information on a vicar/reverend/minister with the surname RIDD.
No idea of christian name.
Believed to possibly lived in Devon about 1920-1940 but my have travelled to another area in late 1940's.
Is there a list of clergy anywhere?
Had a daughter named Margaret Lilian Florence Ridd.
Any information on the family would be great.
Understand members maybe still living so private messages excepted.
Thank you

Crockford's Clerical Directory lists Anglican ministers - but I can't find a Ridd?!
Also, I can't see a birth for Margaret Lilian Ridd anywhere?
Are you sure she was born in England or Wales?
However, there is a marriage:
September qtr 1953
Barnstaple district vol 7a, page 593
Ridd, Margaret L F
Brayley, Arthur W
Margaret also known as Hand - probably a previous marriage?
-
Thank you for checking the Crockford's Clerical Directory
We believe she was born in UK but one can't be sure.
Would have been born between about 1920 - 1930 we think.
-
How about 1917?
Births, December qtr 1917
Malmesbury (Wiltshire) district vol 5a, page 74
Hand, Margaret L F
Mother's maiden name: Ridd
Marriages, September qtr 1914
Wilton (Wiltshire) district vol 5a, page 457
Hand, Fred S
Ridd, Florence M
And:
Deaths, December qtr 1917
Malmesbury district vol 5a, page 49
Hand, Florence M age 31
-
So, a possible scenario?
Margaret, born 1917, mother dies in childbirth.
Father remarries (see below).
Margaret prefers to be known by her mother's maiden name, but mentions both father's and mother's surnames when she eventually marries at the age of 36?
Marriage, June qtr 1920
Barnstaple district vol 5b, page 1237
Hand, Fred S
Dunn, Dora

KGarrad you are an amazing detective.
Now wonder if there is a Frederick HAND who is a vicar/reverend/minister?
This would answer one question.
Margaret may have prefered to take her mothers maiden name if Dad with a clergy when she was older?
-
Thanks to KGarrad I think I might be onto a match.
Frederick wasn't a vicar but a Policeman.
Thank you so much, your a true detective..
