Title: Robert Atkinson
Post by: rayaco on Wednesday 27 March 13 18:19 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find details of my grandfather, Robert Atkinson. He was in the 2nd world war and had been living at Hartburn Northumberland when he was drafted. I would like to know where, when and how long he served and what regiment he was in. Also what medals would he have been awarded? I think he was born around 1906 and his wife was called Hilda, they had three children, the eldest, a son was born in 1929. He might have been a Lance Corporal in 1945, in the Royal Corps of Signals? Many thanks

A tough one. Very little available without details and unfortunately the details you need are in his service records.

With a birth date (I recommend a birth cert), full name, and death cert you can order his service records. They are £30 and about a 12 month wait, but the details and info will be worth it.

Title: Re: Robert Atkinson and Jane Neal, looking for Roberts father William Atkinson

robert atkinson, who was married to Jane Neal. They lived at Byker bar, wallsend at catterick buildings in 1852. They married 29th may 1852. Roberts father on the marriage cert is William Atkinson(dec) which we believe is deceased. Looking for William and his wife, Roberts parents. Robert was born in 1823, Wallsend. Can't find any more info. Have tried a geneologist to no avail, been to Durham county research centre, no luck. Been to Woodhorn, can't find anything, paid for searches to be done, still no luck. We have found some Williams, but can't connect them to Robert, we need Roberts birth with his parents names. Can you please help? Looked through hours of church records online, to no avail. Could be Atchison/Atkinson. Many thanks
