Title: Altcar marriage 1819 - Blundell & Wharton
Post by: presneill on Sunday 24 March 13 23:39 GMT (UK)
Hello,

Is anyone able to provide a transcript of the marriage entry for Thomas Blundell and Mary Wharton - 19th September 1819 in Altcar.

Mary was born c1799 and died in Aughton in 1841.

I have checked on the Lanacashire OPC website and they don't cover Altcar.

Many thanks
Bethan

Presneill,

Was your Thomas Blundell the son of William and Ellinor?

Glenys,

Unfortunately I know nothing about Thomas beyond the fact that the 1841 census gives his approximate year of birth as 1801.  He was living in Lydiate in 1841.  There is a possible entry for him on the 1851 census in Lydiate which gives an approximate birth year as 1795 in Sefton.

I think that Thomas may have been Catholic which would explain why I have been unable to find a baptism online for their two know children (Margery c1821 & Alice c1834).

Family lore is that we are descended from the Weld-Blundell family but I don not know how true this is.

I think this is the family in 1861
Sandy Lane lydiate
Thomas Blundell 50 widower ag lab bn Ince Blundell
Alice daur 25 unmarried bn Lydiate
Thomas grandson 7 bn Lydiate
Mary granddaughter 4 bn Lydiate

As Thomas gives Ince Blundell as his birth place I would strongly suggest the family was RC. At the time he was born Ince Blundell would have had very few if any non Catholic families. Ince Blundell has a RC church called Holy Family and you need to look at their registers. There is a copy held at Crosby Library.
