Hi Welsh Researchers
My good lady would appreciate some help in furthering her research by finding information on Winifred Bowen of Presteigne (born 1884) and who married a Henry Lister of Presteigne (born 1881) at Presteigne in June 1904.
According to their marraige certificate her father is listed as Thomas Bowen, Farm Labourer.
She can not find either Winifred or her father Thomas on the 1891 census for England or Wales when she would have been about 6 years old - but has got her on the 1901 aged 16, and a domestic servant - but no sign of Thomas.
Can anyone help me put this family together properly please
Thankyou

Presteigne came under the Knighton RD at that time but the only birth was in Kington which spans the boundaries of Herefordshire, Hereford and Worcester and Radnorshire
Did she have a middle christian name?

Hi
Tell your wife to look at Winifred's birthplace on the 1911 entry and then look at the 1891 entry for Thomas Bannen b 1852 Dangnuttaw, Radnorshire
Living in Willey Herefordshire in 1891 and indexed on Ancestry as Winniefred Davia
Here's the ref RG12 Piece 2078 Folio 34 Page 7
-
Note that Charlotte's birthplace in 1891 is shown as Dalley/Dolley
I think this is them in Radnor in 1881 living in Dolley Green
RG11 Piece 5471 Folio 47 Page 28
What's puzzling is that 1891 shows Jane as a servant and Thomas a widower but 1881 as a married couple. Also - Thomas shown as b Clun Shropshire

Hi Carol
Thanks me duck for trying to help my good lady tie up her welsh ancestors.
You have me a bit confused now though as I do not have Ancestry, but Find my Past and on that site there is not a Thomas Bannen b 1852 Dangnuttaw, Radnorshire or Living in Willey Herefordshire in 1891 and indexed on Ancestry as Winniefred Davia???
But thanks for that census reference because on FindMyPast we had Thomas Bowen and Winifred Davies - was the ancestry entry a bad transcription do you think??
You reference to the marriage of Thomas to Jane Higgs in 1873 and then Jane davis in 1892 sounds very plausible and we have 3 children from 1884 which would presumably come from that first wife - I think she would die before he married a second wife to look after three young children including Winifred in 1884 - one big problem there is that i can only find one death for a Jane Bowen in Knighton in the 1880's but she was aged 69 - far to old to have kids
What are your thoughts

Hi Chris
I have replied to your pm with full 1891 details
Did you miss this bit re: the first Jane's death
Thinking of the RD for Winifred's possible birth
Deaths December qtr 1887
Jane Bowen aged 35 Kington 6a 372

Hi Carol
Thanks for the 1891 via private message, but, thanks to you providing the reference we had managed to find it on FindMyPast.
As regards the death of the first Jane, yes, we had seen it but had dismissed it as being not relevant (Kington is not Knighton) - should have looked at the map and realized that kington is a town near presteign - what thick heads!!!
Thanks so much Carol, your help is much appreciated
