Title: Life and death in Salop Mental Hospital
Post by: brianthecow on Friday 22 March 13 17:44 GMT (UK)
One of my relatives died in 1937 in Salop Mental Hospital. Does anyone have any information about this place, and are there any records of patients? I think she was probably there from about 1913 until her death. In the 1901 census she's described as an Imbecile, and lived with her mother. My guess is that when her mother died there was nowhere else for her to go.  :(

6175/A/1/7 and adjacent documents are at Shropshire Archives. These are mainly minutes which do talk about patients but are not patient's records as such.

Thanks very much for the information. I'll make a note of the reference. One day I might even be able to get to the archives to have a look.

Hi Brian,

Sorry to hear about your relative. I am currently researching Salop Mental Asylum in the 1930's for a University project. I was wandering if you managed to access these archives and if so, did you make any notes I could have a look at?

Best wishes

James

Hi James. I'm afraid I never did get round to visiting the archives so I have no information for you. Good luck with your project. If you find a reference to a Kate Bradburn, do let me know! Regards, Brian.

Hi Brian,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I have made a note of the name and intend to make an appointment to visit the archives in the coming weeks. I will of course keep you updated on my findings.

Kind regards,

James
