Title: Canford Cemetery
Post by: CassT on Tuesday 19 March 13 05:50 GMT (UK)
Hi

I am wondering if anybody could give me an idea on how I can find out the location of  graves in the Canford Cemetery, and if there are any headstones on the graves. As you might have guessed I am after a photo of the graves.

George Edmund FINN died in Horfeld on 1 January 1924 and was buried at Canford Cemetery on 7 January 1924.

His wife  Mary Ann FINN died 28 April 1930  in Horfield and was also buried in the Canford Cemetery on 2 May 1930.

The information regarding deaths and funerals I have found by searching FindMyPast newspapers and when I found the notices in the Western Daily Press I could not believe my luck.

Maybe an email to Bristol City Council will help?

Full contact details are here:

As you're not requesting a 'search' you shouldn't be charged £27 x 2 search fees but they may try and sting you for fees. Make it clear you just want the grave reference numbers/area reference of the graves & whether there's a headstone. (I have relatives buried there, some with some without headstones)

Here's a link to a plan of the cemetery

Many thanks for the suggestions, I have sent the email, and wait to see the response. If they want the search fees I dont think I will pay, seems a bit expensive, when I have dates.

They have often been helpful to me when I have telephoned them , so you should be lucky. I can get a photo for you if there is a headstone once you have a plot number or area as I live quite near, but its a big place to search without knowing which area.

This morning I received a reply to the email I had sent to the Council, with the location of the grave plus wonderful photographs of the grave and headstone. I  had mentioned in my email that I live in Australia and could not visit the Cemetery, maybe they feel sorry for me, what every it was I can not believe my luck, I feel that I have won the lottery.

Nashua, once again thank you for the offer and to Shorts and KGarrad for their replies.

Hi.  I wonder if anyone can help me by taking a grave photo at Canford Cemetery.  I have asked Find A Grave volunteers but had no claims for it. It is for Susan Louisa Venn 1865- died 3 Jun 1955. Plot number is 246 Pink AB. I'd do it but live in Australia and won't be back for a while!

I don't mind if its unmarked but if could take a photo anyway. Not sure what the colour coding means. I have a basic map on her Find A Grave Memorial page which may help someone. You can upload on the page by claiming my request.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the time and trouble.
