In recent years there have been plenty of people claiming to be 'descendants' of Ned Kelly, Breaker Morant and King Richard III. I think they actually mean 'relatives' and I am not sure why they don't know the meaning of the word.

I am the GGG Grand son of James Chambers, the sponsor with his brother John, of John McDougall Stuart's expeditions in to the vast wilderness of then unknown South Australia/Northern Territory.
This is how Stuart no doubt met my GG Grand Mother, Elizabeth Chambers. My Mother ,who is a Member of the JMDS society in Adelaide tells me there is presently a debate amongst "decendants" or "relatives",call them what you will, that Stuart and Elizabeth were "an item",and some even are suggesting that they were secretly engaged. This all probably "pie in the sky" and impossible to research and prove one way or the other. Suffice to say JMDS did not marry Elizabeth or any one else, and so probably has no descendants from his time in South Australia.
Elizabeth married my GG Grand Father John Holden NEWMAN on 21/1/1862 and on his death married Edward John PEAKE on 26/6/1867.

Thanks for adding that interesting and colourful information.
There is an article online about JMS having been engaged in Scotland to an unnamed cousin of a friend William Russell.
The Chambers family is mentioned in the article and states at one stage Stuart named a bay after Elizabeth and that Elizabeth had embroidered a Union Jack with Stuarts name on it. The Mary River was also named after Mary Chambers, Elizabeth's sister.
Really interesting article which proves a close connection between Stuart and the Chambers family.
