Hi I wonder if someone may be able to help please? My 3x g grandfather James Fletcher married Ann (who I believe? may be Pepper).  Their abode in 1841 was Wymeswold he is 30 and she 24 and are shown with a daughter Elizabeth who is 4.  Census' show that James was born in Burton on the Wolds and Ann in Wymeswold.  I have checked Wymeswold marriages and they were not married there.  I would like confirmation that she was actually Ann Pepper please  if anyone can help :-\

-
If they had children after 1837, then a birth cert would confirm Ann's maiden name.

				 very interesting coincidence last night.

The 1811 baptism i found for a James yesterday was for james Farmer Fletcher. reading our local paper the Loughborough Echo last night there is an article about people from Wymeswold who gave their lives in WW1. one of the 30 names read out each year is that of James Farmer Fletcher.
The Wolds Historical society ( site given yesterday) are hoping to produce a book about these people & their lives.

so if you do find out that this is your james - please contact me & I will pass on the article etc.

change of plan - see new post Wymeswold WW1 families. other people might have info about other families.

				Hello,

This James Fletcher who married Ann would have been James Fermer Fletcher's grandfather.
The baptism is for James Fermer Fletcher's sister Elizabeth.  Elizabeth also had a brother called James who was born approx 1842 (I have no other information on him at the moment).

 FEK33  :)

wondering whether there was more than one James Fermer Fletcher. the one bap 1811 could not be the grandson of James & Ann married 1836!  perhaps james who married Ann was also james Fermer?

Hello I am actually out of the house this evening I will reply with all my info if that's
 Ok?
-
Hi Diddy thank you for all your information.  Yes it looks like James Fermer Fletcher's (b 1886) grandfather might have had the same name.

Where did you find the baptism for James Fermer Fletcher bap 4/6/1811 Wymeswold s/o William & Margaret Ann bap 1820 Wymeswold from please?

 Thank you again  :)

there are also baps for children of a William & Margaretta , yeoman of Burton on the Wolds, bap wymeswold. found some in the Leics strays index in the library - john is listed as theirs so suspect the same family:

 Margaretta 7/5/1815

Hi Diddy, I am just trawling through the all information you have given me and am currently looking at the bapts in Wymeswold of children of William and Maraget/Margaretta, I have found them all but cant seem to find John bapt 4/3/1821.  You did mention on your previous post that you found some in Leics strays index, sorry I am being thick but what is the strays index  ???

ps I have again contacted the moderator regarding my post on Notts board.

				john 25/10/1818 - samuel 4/3/1821

a strays index is one where someone has been baptised / married /died away from their parish / county. in this case all the children are said to be children of william, yeoman of Burton on the Wolds but baptised wymeswold.

Leics stray index vol 5. pub by Leics FHS

you can also find John on family search. it also has him on 1881 (married to elizabeth) / 1901 census as in Willoughby on the wolds.
see all villages on Leics villages site:

Hi Diddy, it is me again.  I have spent this evening going through the amazing information that yourself and Mike have helped me with.  I have also been looking at Family Search too.

One thing that is puzzling me is your previous post :

daughter Elizabeths bap is on the Leics IGI:

 Elizabeth d/o James & Ann Fletcher 3/10/1836

but it is not on the Wymeswold fiche!

 Diddy

I don't seem to be able to find this on the Leics IGI and am intrigued as to where Elizabeth was baptised.  Looking at the dates her parents possibly married in May 1836 and she may have been born/baptised in the october, so her mother may have been 5 months pregnant  ;)
I did manage to find on family search the following birth that may be my Elizabeth but have not come across this before (sorry if I am being a bit thick!).

England and Wales Non-conformist Record birth place East Leake & Wimeswold date 31 October 1836 parents James & Ann.

Please can you give me some advice as to what to do next or where I can find the info you found on the IGI?

 Thank you.

 FEK33  :D
-
apologies Fek - I have rechecked my scrap of paper & the date is indeed 31/10/1836. i saw it on the Leics IGI fiche but on looking at the fiche PRs for wymeswold couldn't see it. i think you can be pretty sure therefore that the N/C record you found is her - it is on the BMD registers site:

 Piece Description
Register of Births at the General Baptist Chapels in the parishes of East Leake and Wimeswould, Nottinghamshire from 1775 to 1837
 TNA Reference    RG4 / Piece 2672 / Folio 41  [Chapel/Registry]
 Full Name          Elizabeth Fletcher
Date of Birth      31 October 1836
 Place of Abode    Wimeswold
 Parish of Abode   Wimeswold
 County of Abode  Leicestershire
Registration Town/County  East Leake And Wimeswould, Nottinghamshire
 Ceremony Performed by Edward Bott
 Parents
 Father   James Fletcher
 Mother  Ann Fletcher

on here it is under Nottinghamshire which is maybe why we couldn't find it - East Leake is right on the border of Notts /Leics. Notts post code - Leics telephone etc.
