Thank you Donna!
I am attempting to create the family tree of Hugh Bourne - born to Joseph and Ellen in 1772- founder of Primitive Methodism. I am tantalisingly close now as I originate from a Bourne family from the potteries and cheshire/staffs border- and also have Steeles and Pointons in my own tree.
looking at what I have thus far. the witness Hugh Bourne could well have been the brother of the groom as I have a Hugh Bourne born Sep 1744 in Burslem 9parents John and Mary). the groom Joseph was born 1733 also to John and Mary.
I wonder if Thomas Steel was the brother or the father of the bride- I do know that Ellen Steele's father was a farmer at Hatchley near Dilhorne, and in turn his father was a respectable wheelwright and farmer and timber dealer at Abbey Farm near Milton- but I have been unable to find out their christian names!
So any further info you may be able to uncover would be very welcome!

Hugh Bourne's sister Hannah Bourne b. 1770 at Ford Hayes Farm, married George Mountford on 9 October 1791 at St Giles, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs. She died July 1832 at Goldenhill, Staffs and was buried 13 July 1832 At St Bartholomew, Norton in the Moors. Her husband George Mountford (1764-1839) was the son of George Mountford (died 1799) and Mary Pointon/Poynton (1740-1815) of Norton in the Moors. Mary Pointon and George Mountford senior were married 16 January 1764 at Norton in the Moors - they lived Adams Croft, Norton in the Moors.

Hello- thank you for replying to my post- I was doing this research some time ago prior to a house move to Cheshire and am now trying to reawaken my research! Do you have much info on your Pointon family please?
I have the following link in my tree (in a nutshell!!):
Herbert Bourne married Alice Pointon 1898 Sneyd
Alice Pointon(1877-1950) was the daughter of samuel Pointon and Elizabeth James- married 1866 Sneyd
Samuel Pointon (1844-1884) was the son of william Pointon (1800-1866) and Sarah Lewelling
Do any of these people appear in your Pointon family research to link across to Mary Pointon (1740-1815) who married George Mountford in 1764.
I know it is a really long shot- and a very complex family tree- but would welcome any help!!!
I now live within 10 miles of Mow Cop through pure fate and cannot believe how close my road through life has now brought me to my ancestors on the Bourne side of my family! But just need to try and find those missing links now!
Many thanks

Mary Poynton (1740-1815), wife of George Mountford, was the sister of Thomas Poynton (1753-) who married Martha Harrison in 1775 - and Thomas was the great grandfather of your Alice Pointon who married Herbert Bourne in 1898, so there is a definite relationship link back to Hugh Bourne. I think we have been in touch before so you may have the details of my family tree website - if not contact me for an invitation. Regards - Joan
