Hi KR,
Quite a few anc trees, if you do not have access to ancestry, you can still view for free on the sister site http://www.mundia.com/gb/
Could it be that the couple first moved to Canada ? There is an entry on the USA 1900 Census of a similar couple under the spelling "Aybrod" which was corrected to Aykroyd - James and Anna with 7 children. Thomas and Alice were both born in Canada. Living Boston Ward 1, Suffolk, Massachusetts.
James Aybrod 40 Jan 1860 Anna Aybrod 40 Apr 1860. Had 11 children and 7 survive.
Elizabeth M 22 Born Eng Aug 1877
James 19 Born Eng. May 1881.

Hi Sandra,
That's the family.
I have found some information on the family search site, names of children, and the 1930/1940 census.
Yes, looks like they entered America via Canada.
Thanks for the info from the 1900 census.
I don't have access to Ancestry, will take a look at the mundia site.
Many thanks

Hi Sandra,
Clicked on the mundia link, but not gone any further yet.
Do you know if you can look at other Trees if I register, or do you have to put your own tree on first.
It's in my nature to be cautious.
Many Thanks

Hi KR,
No obligation to put your own tree on the site, you can view any other public trees they have.

KR, I hope that you get this. I just read your request for information about Hannah Dodd Aykroyd. Hannah was my Great Grandmother. In 1883 she went to Montreal, Canada from Manchester, England to join my Great Grandfather, James Aykroyd, also from Manchester, who had arrived earlier. She came over with their two oldest children, Elizabeth Ann 6 and James 2. A few months later my Grandfather, Thomas, was born in Montreal and a little over a year later a daughter, Alice, was born there too. When Alice was 11 months old the family moved to Boston, Massachusetts. Where two more sons and a daughter were born.
James and Hannah traveled back and forth to England many, many times to visit their families. Sometimes they took a child or two with them for the visit. Their youngest, Alsie was taken to England to try and swim the English Channel. She made an attempt but was unable to complete the challenge. The last time that I could find a record of their voyage to England was in the late 1930's. In 1937 James died and in 1942 Hannah died. I don't think that Hannah made any trips after James' death.
What information do you have on the Dodds? On my great grandparents' marriage certificate, her father's name is listed as Thomas. Her mother's name wasn't given. I found a census that seems to match the family and the mother's name on that was given as Alice. That is all that I know about the Dodd's. I think that she had a sister named Jane or Mary Jane. I really don't know the names of any other brothers or sisters. Would you know any of this........Anything at all about this family would be so helpful. Gail A.

Hello Gail,
Lovely to hear from you.
I was interested in tracing the siblings of my gt gt grandmother Ann Dodd, one of which was Hannah who married James Aykroyd, and as you can see, Sandra was a whizz at finding information for me.
Your gt grandmother Hannah, was the daughter of Thomas Dodd and Alice Charles.
They had 11 children, 4 died in infancy.
There is a lot to relate so I will send you a P.M.

Hi. I'm just learning how to use this site. I saw your postings about some of my family members. Looks like we might be distant cousins or something like that. My grandmother is Anita Doris Aykroyd. It's overwhelming to find more information out there since these sites have been invented.

Hello BC,
Yes, this is a great site, and we are indeed distant cousins. It's good to know that Hannah Dodd and James Aykroyd made a great life for themselves in America. Even nicer I was able to make friends with
Gail, who I believe may be your aunt. We have had some very interesting exchanges. I think there is still much more to learn about the Aykroyd's in England.
