LancashireBMD has only 1 Thomas Boocock born 1857 +/- 2 years - in Chorley, Mother's maiden name Boocock.
So maybe this is Thomas in 1861?

Carr, Matilda Wife F 22 b Eccleston
Boocock, Thomas Son M 3 Scholar b Chorley

Wrong Thomas! See later post

Thomas Briggs Bulcock who married Elizabeth Chapman on 30 Aug 1853 at Manchester Cathedral was aged 20 (born circa 1833) and his father was Benjamin Bulcock, carter;
Thomas Boocock who married Mary Ann Hague on 22 Nov 1875 at Hulme St Mark was aged 42 (born circa 1833) and his father was Benjamin Boocock, carter;
In 1853 he was a van driver and in 1875 he was a waterman.
Does anyone think that the two Thomas' are the same person please? The signatures look different on the parish registers and Briggs has disappeared too.

Death
Thomas Bowcock, aged 42
3rd qtr 1876 Chorlton 8c 508
I think this is the death of Thomas who married Mary Ann Hague in 1875. She was definitely widowed by 18 June 1877 when she married again.
Can anyone see a burial? Hoping to find out why he died but probably the only way is to order the death certificate.

On a different forum I found someone who had sent for this birth certificate. The mother is Elizabeth Chapman and the child is registered as Elizabeth Beaucock born December 1867. Must be impossible to have a name like Boocock and be illiterate!!

Hello all,
sorry to be a year late to this board - I'm the person who got the birth certificate for Elizabeth Boocock / Beacock a while back. She was my great-great-grandmother on my direct maternal line.
Shela feel free to drop me a line, and thanks for everyone who did some sluthing! Just to confirm what many of you have found:
Thomas Briggs Boocock (born 1856, died 1909, buried in Toxteth) was son of Thomas Briggs Boocock (1833) and Elizabeth Chapman (1833). Thomas is incorrectly named on the 1871 census as John, but as the family were illiterate I'm putting it down to error. They were married in Manchester August 30th 1853. By the late 1860's the family are in the Liverpool area (their daughter was born in Birkenhead and their youngest son in Toxteth) but they are originally from Manchester. Thomas was indeed the son of Benjamin Boocock and Betsy (Elizabeth) Briggs, and was christened April 1833.
There are a large number of Briggs-Boococks running around the liverpool area in the late 1800s, and they are all related (huzzah!). Please drop me a line if you want any further info on this branch.
Thanks everyone,
Gem

Hi Gem,
Do you have any information about Thomas Boocock/Bowcock who married Mary Ann Haigh/Hague on 22 Nov 1875? I believe he was the son of Benjamin Boocock and Betsey Briggs. He wasn't married to Mary Ann for very long as he died 3rd qtr 1876.
Mary Ann was my 3 x great grandmother. She married George Haigh (my 3 x great grandfather) first and was widowed. Then she married Thomas and was widowed again. Her 3rd husband was Samuel Holland.
I haven't ordered Thomas' death certificate yet. I have all three marriage certificates though.

Hi Luzzu,
to be honest the second marriage has come as a bit of a surprise to me! I knew that Thomas had died by 1886 thanks to his daughter's marriage certificate and had assumed he was dead in 1881 as his youngest son is living with his oldest brother. However when Ben Briggs Boocock married in 1880 he didn't list his father as deceased, which threw me. I also haven't found his first wife's death certificate yet, but then I was only looking in the Liverpool area :-[
One thing I have on him that might be of interest is a newspaper report about him. It appears that in 1867 he was arrested for trying to steal cutlery from the company that had paid him to transport it, but my favourite detail is the fact he was somewhat drunk when he was arrested and announced "You have the wrong man. I know who did it, but I shan't tell you."
Drop me your email and I will send the clipping over - made me smile at least!

Hi Gemma,
Thank you I would be interested to see the cutting. I will PM my email address.
I had a similar problem in finding the death certificate for George Haigh. He was buried in Manchester but I couldn't find the death registration to order the certificate. As it happened he died in Liverpool and his body was taken back to Manchester for burial (he fell? into the Duke's Dock and it took them 2 days to find him). The cause of death was "found drowned" so I will never know if he had an accident, had been drinking or was pushed.
I will eventually order Thomas' death certificate and will let you know the outcome.
