Title: Elham (St. Mary the Virgin) Baptism - WASTIE
Post by: Pennie on Thursday 07 March 13 23:38 GMT (UK)
Can anyone confirm a baptism of an Ann WASTIE in 1612 at St. Mary the Virgin, Elham.

This record (along with the burial at Eastry mentioned in my previous post) are the first instances of this very unusual surname in the south-east of England.

Any information would be most gratefully received.  Many thanks.

Very many thanks for your reply.  Can I be a real "pain" and ask - was this from the original document or a transcription?  This surname is frequently mistranscribed and my query regarding a "WASTIE" burial elsewhere in Kent has already proved to actually be "WASTAL".

Any further clarification would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Pennie
It is hard to read but I would say it is Wastie.
