Hi
Is anyone else getting an error message when they try to access the Queensland Justice Department's index to the historical bmds?

Hi Libby. Yes, I got one of those yesterday when I tried to access the historical records.
I thought it might be because my access link is outdated and I tried to get to them via the sitemap, but seemingly there really IS a problem.
I might try again later today. Here's hoping.

Hi
I was able to search using this link, my first attempt timed out but my second succeeded. Perhaps it is a bit slow.

Hi Andy & Philippa
Thanks for the link, Andy- just tried it and it works - hooray.
Philippa, I was beginning to wonder what the problem might be as I have been getting the same error message for a couple of days both at home and at the local library.

Libby, if I get the same message later today (when I get time to sit down and retry) I'll get in touch with them and ask. They have been fairly quick to respond in the past, so I'll see what happens.

Hi there you can now order images or historical certificates online now

WOW, what an unexpected bonus. I will have to check it out as soon as I've finished the "must do" stuff around the house.
Wonder if they are reducing the cost for certificates now that downloading is possible? Will be interesting to check that out too.
Thanks for letting us know.

Just checked it out, did go into the order page.
Historical Death Certificate 28.00 (weren't they previously $45 or so)
Historical Death Image 20.00 unavailable
However seems the images aren't yet available.

Last time I checked, Mick, I think all certificates, irrespective of age, were just under $40. $28 and $20 does represent a fair discount, but once the images are all digitized, logically they shouldn't remain so expensive (says she hopefully). I'll check the costs in NSW both from the NSW BDM and via "agents" to see how it compares.
I imagine there are huge numbers to be prepared for electronic delivery so we shouldn't be too impatient. Each step forward is a good one I think.
Come to think of it, Victoria has had downloaded images for quite a while. None of my folk were ever there so I never checked costs. I wonder how THEY compare?
All interesting exercises but it has to be good in the long run.

::) Lmao...just spotted this error on the Death Index search page
Deaths
Enter a last name and either a date of birth or a date of birth range. You can search for births from 1829 and 1983.
Also I checked marriages and the 2 marriages for Emma Farmi (1906 and 1909) are not still in the index. I do have these marriage certificates.

I don't think 1983 for the deaths is an error as that would be 30 yrs ago and comes under historical.
This would mean I could order an image for 1972 and 1975 if I had the funds for it.
It also means we can search for deaths that we have had trouble finding as well.
Cheers

Victoria is also $20.00A for a image as well

I'll bold where the mistakes are, (should be Death not Birth)

Mick
I saw that error on the Qld BDM webpage last night and sent them an email suggesting they edit their page. As it's the weekend, I don't expect a reply until at least Tuesday.
Or maybe they will just fix it on the quiet.
:P :P :P :P

Sorry about that Mick. Just went back and had another look and see what you mean. I wonder if they will pick up on it or not. ::)
