Hello,
Ethlinda Josephine Harriet Ginder married Benjamin Benome Peat on the 13.10.1873 in Middlesex, England and then disappeared. Has anyone ever come across Ethlinda or Benjamin or can offer me suggestions on how I might find them.
Thanks
NellieG ???

I couldn't find very much but there is a 'tree' on A **- very small tree - that says that Benjamin was a mariner so could he have gone to sea or abroad? Looks like they can't find them either as there are no censuses listed.

Hi
Not sure but these might help put you on the right track??
An Ethlinda Josephine WAKELING shows up on the London Electoral Rolls in 1918 and 1919 in Camberwell.
FreeBMD death index has a death for an Ethlinda J H WAKELING aged 84 Camberwell 1937.
1911 Census shows an Ethlinda WAKELING born Stepney about 1854.
1901 Census England London Camberwell St George
RG13/519/104/30
23 Calmington? Road
WAKELING
Alfred Head Marr 62 Grainer and Painter London St Olaves
Ethlinda Wife Marr 43 London Stepney
Trying to find evidence of a marriage for these two and a death for B B PEAT.
Cheers

Hello Karenlee,
Many thanks for your help. I am sure you have the right woman. Benjamin was a mariner so we may never find his death.
Thank-you for your kindness
best wishes

Well done.
Ethlinda Peat is a widow aged 26 with Alfred Wakeling on 1881 census.
Shown as Eth Linda Peat.

Ethlinda and Alfred may not have ever formally cemented their relationship... not seeing them on FreeBMD although one or the other may be badly mistranscribed.

Hi Nellie
I too had trouble finding Ethlinda!
I too think they never married. Why? Maybe Ethlinda was still married to Benjamin. Divorce was very expensive in those times and for working class people with little money ....
I know Alfred was in a workhouse eventually, suffering from what we know today as dementia.
Ethlinda died 7th March 1937 at 5 Brunswick Square, Camberwell. Her home address was 182 Westmorland Rd Southwark. Cause of death was "chronic bronchitis".
The death was registered by a J Tozer, grandson, who was actually Alfred's grandson [by his daughter].
Ethlinda's mother Martha was my great grandmother's sister Harriet. Are you related in anyway to Ethlinda?
Well I hope this solves a little bit more of the puzzle.
Kindest regards
