Firstly a huge big thanks to all who answered my previous post on information regarding my Grandfather David Kerr born 1921 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, as a result my mother now has several new half brothers and sister, who I'm trying to arrange a first face to face meeting.
An inquiry of such, (if allowed), that relates to David Kerr's parents. My suspicion was that Joseph Graham Kerr (David's brother) was named after one of their grandparents chose to be fruitful, as it turns out their parents are Thomas Kerr and Sarah Graham (no dates, but I'm guessing between 1880-1890), I've tried following the usual route of Ancestry, Scotspeople.gov.uk but without much success, any help would be appreciated,
Regards

I share your delight in finding half brothers and sisters for your Mum and I hope the family gathering is a great success.
Re the name Joseph Graham Kerr, could he have been named after his great grandfather on the Graham's side? Do you know who Sarah's parents were eg from marriage certificate?

Hi David
The link to the previous post here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,102.0.html
Have you got David or Joseph's birth certs? There is a possible entry in Glasgow for example for Joseph in 1917. These have be ordered as they can't be viewed online due to the 100 yr privacy rule for images relating to births.
Like you cannot see a marriage for Thomas Kerr (tried variants like Carr etc) and Sarah Graham*. Parents may not have been Scottish or marriage may simply not have been in Scotland perhaps. This is where the birth certs for David and Joseph would help you.
Death certs are also another way to sometimes check for information. There is a possible death for Sarah Kerr/Graham (born c. 1879) but this is in 1964 in Lanarkshire, a couple of years off from what you can currently view online for death certs due to 50 yr privacy rule.

I ordered David Kerr (my maternal grandpa) born 1921 birth certificate on 27 February 2013, so I'm (im)patiently waiting for it to arrive, it could be a while as I live in United States, but as soon as I get it I will post details.
I did find a Joseph Graham, and a Sarah Graham living in Lanarkshire (as siblings), around the sametime, and found a Thomas Kerr as an apprentice Electrician, my grandpa David was an electrician for Scottish Television (according to my mom), so this may tie in.... (I use the word 'may' loosely).
Thanks for the detailed interest, will keep you updated as soon as I get it....
Regards
David....

It is always frustrating waiting for certs to arrive isn't. You get a little used to being able to view certificates instantly up to certain years (this is a good summary here of current cut-off and when certs have to be ordered www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?r=554&413 ).
Is this the possible 1901 census entry you mentioned seeing for Thomas Kerr -everyone born in Glasgow:
Isabella Kerr 61
Robert Kerr 24
Isabella Kerr 22
Thomas Kerr 18 Electrical Enginer (app)
Address: 13 Belfort St, Maryhill Lanarkshire
And also hopefully for Sarah with family:
Joseph Graham 47 Steel Work Furnaceman b. Ireland
Isabella Graham 44 b. Ireland
Isabella Graham 21
Sarah Graham 16
Joseph Graham 13
Samuel Mcfarlane 30
Address: 35 Glenpark St, Glasgow Camlachie

Hello David,
on the off chance have you come across any Algie or Burns connections to your Kerr family?

As no obvious marriage in Scotland, one to consider in Ireland:
Clones District, Monaghan in Dec qtr 1914, between a Sarah Graham and Thomas Kerr.
-
That would certainly be a big possibility, Scotsmum :) The marriage year of 1914 would fit well with the 1920s births we are seeing too.
Had checked for marriages earlier in England & Wales via the index on www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and nothing showed there.
Fingers crossed the birth cert will confirm details.

PS: I am just going to post this entry now from the 1911 Irish census rather than go looking for it again at another time! www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Monaghan/Clones_Urban/Fermanagh/804331/ The two interesting points are the location (with Scotsmum's possible marriage in 1914) and father Joseph for this Sarah.

First of a big thanks to all who replied, today I got the birth certificate, transcription follows:
Child: David Kerr born 14th November 1921 at 9, Plant Street, Glasgow.
Father: Thomas Kerr, Tramcar Motorman
Mother: Sarah Kerr, Ms Graham
Marriage: 23 October 1914, Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland

Hi David
Apologies first. I have had to take off the image of the birth cert due to copyright issues. You can include small snippets for help with deciphering etc. but not the whole image.
The transcription you have included above does the job great ;) Great news really. The possible marriage that scotmum posted is no longer just a possible!
As no obvious marriage in Scotland, one to consider in Ireland:
Clones District, Monaghan in Dec qtr 1914, between a Sarah Graham and Thomas Kerr.
Irish marriage certs, I understand, include just father's name and occupation (like the Welsh and English marriage certs.). But you can confirm their ages in 1914 and try and link back to the Irish 1901/11 censuses. It will be a start in tracing back their respective families.
The nearest we got, I think, on a possible death entry for Sarah, (married women are always easier to find deaths for as you can search with both the maiden and married surnames) was a Sarah Kerr/Graham death in 1964 Lanarkshire (two years outside currently of being able to view this online).

With the mention of 9 Plant Street, thought you would find these recollections by others of interest http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18843

That's great, David. It looks as though you are now getting somewhere. Good luck with the Irish search.

A quick update:
Firstly a big thanks to those who originally helped, as a result I was able to track down my great grandpa Thomas Kerr being born in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1891 and ended up dying in Simcoe, Ontario.
So far I've managed to trace my ancestors to 1765 in Ayrshire, so once again a big thanks to all who offered their assistance....
Regards
David
