Title: Foreman of Sturry
Post by: kdr548489 on Thursday 28 February 13 06:57 GMT (UK)
Is anyone researching the Foreman family from Sturry?

Also, can anyone help with the several John and Sarah Foreman's from the surrounding area.  How canI tell which is the relevant couple.

William Foreman b 1795 Sturry s/o John and Sarah.  I cannot find a John/Sarah from Sturry, but there are 3 generations of John/Sarah from neighbouring Hackington which may fit.  However, there is also John/Sarah from Hernehill which is a tiny bit further in a different direction.  Is there any way I can find maiden name of the Sarah's as it is obv before birth certifcation era.

thanks :-\

I have found the following with the same parents as the William in 1795:

Thomas: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N1Z6-ZVK
Hester: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NN23-8XK

John: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NN23-24Z
Sarah: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NT25-GBM

There is a marriage in Sturry in 1769 for a John Foreman and Sarah Rigden:

A burial for

John was from Hackington, Sarah from Sturry, & the witnesses were Thos SPRADBROW & Thos RIGDEN.
According to the Banns (24th Sept 1769) John was a Bachelor of St Stephen Hackington, & Sarah was a Spinster.

There must be a marriage somewhere that we can't find as the children seem born very late after the ones we have found  ???

I think I may try slight variants of the surname and see what I find in Sturry for a bit later maybe. Certainly a tricky one when you go back that far!

Marriages matching correct name a bit near the end of century:

1791: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NN4K-8LZ ( 5 miles away)
1784: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NNCX-F4H ( 3 miles away)

I will keep looking for anything else that might help.

Looks like the Foremans were from Hernhill, a lot of children baptised there, & several marriages, but only two for a John, one in 1695 so far too early, & one in 1810, that was to an Ann WILLS.
Only one child baptised to a John & Sarah, that's another John in 1737.

thanks everyone for your input.  I know Sturry was the area they lived from 1790's onwards.  I think John and Sarah Ridgen (who I assumed were the parents of William snr) were in fact the grandparents and the later John/Sarah (1791 Sturry) were the parents.

If only our ancestors knew how difficult they made our lives by all having the same names - 3 generations of John/Sarah did make things difficult.
