Title: Robert Gray b.1671 and Janet Gray b.1675
Post by: da Shetland on Monday 25 February 13 16:24 GMT (UK)
Hi,

These were two children of Jon Gray and Jean Ramsay both christened in Wemyss.  Does anyone have a record of this family.

Specifically what happened to Robert Gray b.1671.  Did he attend Glasgow University and eventually become a Presbyterian Minister?

Any help in confirming or eliminating would be useful.

Kind regards,
John Robertson

checked the list of wills on SP - there are 13 Robert Grays 1671 -1770. there are a couple of ministers but not a presbyterian minister mentioned - what clues do you have to suspect this?

Hi,

He is a 6th great grandfather.  I know his life from attending Glasgow University in early 1690s, I know from the Fasti that he was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Hamilton on 20th June 1700.  I know his life from there, moving to Shetland, married there and died in 1749.

I have consulted OPRs both on the IGI and Scotlands People.  There are only a couple of Robert Grays born at this time the rest have married someone else, or died on a different date.

I was hoping that someone connected with Fife would be able to confirm this particular Robert, or say, sorry - he got married and died in/around Fife.

Kind regards,
