Hi
Many thanks for your help, i was hoping the record would have more info, but never mind.
Do you have access to St Margarets baptisms, I am looking for children of James and Alice Roberts born between 1837 and 1850 in Leicester, James was a Frame Work Knitter.
I think the marriage in 1836 is for this couple but not sure why the name of Harrison was added on to James's surname

Hi Mike
You are a STAR, thank you so much for the info, you have given me two children i didn't know they had, Jane and Emma. Isaac and Joseph were twins born in 1844, they had another child Sarah Ann as well born around 1840. They seemed to move around Leicester quite a bit. I have Isaac's birth certificate it says they were living in Olive Hill any idea exactly where that was?
-
Sorry ……
I’ve now checked out the Seven main Church Baptism Registers of the time
In names Harrison / Roberts
But apart from this one possibility nothing found for Sarah Ann.:~

Re Olive Hill ........Does not ring any bells with me

Hi Mike
Don't suppose you have any burial record info from Leicester churches, I think James Roberts (born 1808 in Bedworth) died between 1861 and 1881 but cannot seem to tie anything up on Free BMD, Alice i think also died before 1881 and son Isaac disappeared after 1865, he was in the army but was discharged in 1865 in Canada stating he was returning back to Leicester but cannot find any trace of him, sorry if i am a nuisance.

Greeting’s again ..Gene Genie.
Although I can see burials in Welford Road Cemetery
In the Christian names of Roberts you have asked for
Unfortunately they are all spread about and not in the same plot.
So not sure enough to say, for sure these are the ones you are seeking. ……..
One raises interest though for Alice Roberts
Within the same plot No’. U.A. 156 we have TWO Alice’s
1887 aged 64.
1903 Aged 47.
Also one Henry WEST. 1889. Aged. 21.
West being the maiden name of your Alice
But the male within this plot was a Joseph Roberts
And in the next plot there are 6 people named HARRIS.

Hi Mike
Once again many thanks for your help. I am not sure that these burials are connected to my Roberts family although the West connection is interesting. I will have to do some more research before i can say definitely if they are.
Thanks for taking the time to help

Hi Mike
I have seen your helpful reply to the St Margarets, Leicester records enquiry and wondered if I might ask you a similar question.
I am researching the Ellicock family from St Margarets and although the IGI is very useful it doesn't carry any information for the period I need.
I am back to Samuel Ellicock 1823 and his family and I would like to get back further from there. The only entry on the IGI which may be connected is a marriage for Samuel Ellicock and Maria Yesson in 1817 at St Margarets which may be the parents of Samuel 1823.
Is there any information regarding the Ellicocks you have which might help me?
Thank you.

Greeting’s Bill & Welcome to the Leicestershire Boards……….
I’m not sure you have the estimated year of birth for Samuel right ? ……..
The only Samuel Ellicock Son of Samuel & Maria I can find is as follows :~ ….
St: Margaret’s Parish Church Leicester,
1842.
Baptism Register Entry No’. 980.
25th December.
Samuel. Son of Samuel & Maria Ellicock.
Abode within St: Margaret’s Parish.
Fathers occupation Frame Work Knitter.
Which doesn’t match your 1823 ……
Other Baptisms with Samuel ~ Maria as Parents :~
1834.Priscilla. 27th. August.
1840. Selina. 15th. July
1842. Samuel. 25th. December.
Samuel & Maria must have been very young for that 1817 marriage……..
Maria’s Burial details :~
St Margaret’s Parish Church.
1852.
Maria Ellicock
Of Leicester.
21st. February
Aged. 52.
Which matches the 1851 census returns for ages

Hi Mike
It was very nice of you to take the trouble to look into this for me, as usual Genealogy is crammed with misleading and conflicting records and I seem to be smack in the middle of one of those situations.
On the 1851 census I have William Ellicock 1842/3, this is the line I am tracing, with parents Samuel 1823 and Jane 1824. The only marriage on BMD is Samuel Ellicock and Jane Spriggs 1841, Leicester, which ties in perfectly.
As for the parents of Samuel 1823 the only marriage I could find on the IGI, St Margarets was Samuel Ellicock and Maria Yesson in 1817, I'm not suggesting this is in fact the correct parents to Samuel Ellicock 1823 it just happens to be the only one I can find.
Thanks again.
Bill

Greeting’s Again Bill. …….
Full transcription for the Samuel Ellicock ~ Jane Spriggs Marriage 1841.:~
St: Margaret’s Parish Church. Leicester.
Entry No. 61, March 20th., 1841, after Banns
SAMUEL ELLICOCK, minor, Bachelor. Frame Work Knitter, of SANDACRE Street,
Son of WILLM. ELLICOCK,.... Frame Work Knitter
JANE SPRIGGS, minor, Spinster. Frame Work Knitter, of SANVEY GATE,
Daughter. of ROBERT SPRIGGS, Frame Work Knitter
Wits: JOHN COLLINS, ALICE STANYON
Therefore going on the details of above …..this Samuel would match for the Samuel baptism 1823…….
So. …It’s a William that is the father of that Samuel bc 1823
That’s why his status is that of a Minor ( Under the age of consent )
