Hi - I have in the last few days discovered that a relative emigrated to South Africa and died (as best I can tell) aroud 1996. His name was Derek Wilson and he was born in Belfast in 1938.
I was very pleased with myself when I found the Ancestry24 site and even more so when my search on there brought up records that seemed related to him. However, when I tried to access them I got a message saying the site was closing and have today received an email response from the administrator of the site saying they can't give access as membership has closed in advance of the wind-up of the site at end Feb. Although she did say the records would not be lost, there has been no decision by the company on what they will do with the data.
So I am stumped :( Has anybody got any ideas about anywhere else I could search for information instead?

rhondac ,
have a little faith , rutti and a few other folk are in the same position with anc24 closing......
we are in contact with the folk who own the site , or worked at the office of the site,
As soon as we know what is happening to the databases and folks trees there will be a post made on Rootschats boards.....
As for other sites use the index of rootschat and type in South Africa or read some the posts by rutti for other links and sources....
