I cant find either of my gt gt grandparents birth cert. Marion Brown born about 1846, James Easton born about 1841. I have them on census returns. I have their wedding cert 31-12-63 in kilmarnock, also their death cert. James in 1871 and Marion in 1916. Can anyone give me an idea where im going wrong please?

•Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths began in Scotland on 1st January 1855.
You would have to hope for a baptism .

Hi
Think this could be Marions Birth
08 Aug 1846 , Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland. Parents: Archibald Brown and Margaret.

Hi just in case it's your Marion, have you discounted the Marion in 1851 census ref HO107/598/34/28?

the marriage cert gives Marion's mother as Marion and shows her as deceased.

Thanks for all of that, some i knew a lot i didnt. Hadn't thought of looking for marions siblings. I think the Marion on the marriage cert. is wrong it was Jean (i said Jane earlier, sorry) on the census and on Marions death cert.

if I'm looking at the right Marion in 1851 - in Kilmaurs with father David and siblings, 2 of the siblings are enumerated as son by marriage - William McKenn? age 16 and David McKenn? age 5, so David would appear to have remarried since the birth of Marion. Wondering if the surname could be McKenna?

that would make sense, i found that census return, thought janet might be jean but couldnt work out where the mckennas came in. im guessing jean died, havent found a cert. yet though.

there won't be a cert as it's before the start of civil registration in 1855. You may find a burial record although I can see that burial records for Kilmaurs for that period do not survive.

Given the names of his children, this looks a candidate for David's baptism

I think that's the wife from the 1851 census with her first husband, also David, just to confuse.
Baptism for Agnes

Janet Nisbet married David Brown in 1849 and in one of the later census entries, 1871 from memory, Agnes is with the Brown family.
