Thanks so much for that information, I didn't have the birth dates, the Challis part was a family
secret until after Sydney's death, there are Challis's in my family tree on my grandmothers side,
his mother may have been related.
Do you have info on Benjamin Turner's brother John Turner b.6 Aug 1860 married Mary Crabtree
b.24 Aug 1886 , I think they also lived at nile.
Thanks Craig :)

Hi didielicious,

I can see Raymond Henry TURNER and Myrtle Annie on electoral rolls at Evandale.  Raymond died in 1963 aged 65 and is buried at Carr Villa.

This is probably his birth:

Born: 29 Dec 1897
Father:    Henry TURNER
Mother:    Ellen SHACKCLOTH
Registered at Evandale, Tasmania
Registration Number:    559

Hi Debra.
It is very confusing the Turners of the Nile.
I know of and have the family history of two Turner's who lived on the Nile, one on my father's side and one on my mother's side, took me some time to work it out.
None of the Turner's I have marred a Shackcloth ( I may be wrong) but can't find it. Nor can I find a Henry married at that time. There is a Ellen Rose (NELL) who married a Fitzgearld killed 1st world war.
I am sure there is a connection there but I don't have it sorry.
Ken

Thank you! Yes I think it sounds like Raymond. I spelt his wife's maiden name wrong, it was Myrtle wheatley. But other than the BDM's and all how do I find out more about the family? Were Ray's parents well do do?

You do realise that Deep Bay is no where near Nile, or Lymington as it was known in the early 1800s,  they are not related in any way to the Challis family at Nile and I would appreciate you cease any other inference

Hi. I can help with Raymond Henry Turner. He was the son of Henry Turner and Ellen (nee Shackloth). He was a business man from Nile and she was a housemaid from Brickendon, Longford.
His parents, Thomas and wife Mary Ann (nee Manning), arrived aboard the Whirlwind at Launceston, Tasmania in 1855 from Mildenhall, Suffolk. Thomas bought or was granted land at Lymington North called Camperdown which was passed down to Henry. I believe that they also owned a property in Nile called Lymington House.
In answer to didielicious' question. I have heard stories of the daughters attending balls at Clarendon and hobnobbing with the landed gentry in the area. I'm not sure if they were well-to-do however I believe that they thought they were!
